As Christmas 2012 was approaching and the realisation that I had some time away from work dawned on me, I decided to go on a trip and spend Christmas away from home for the first time! Since that trip, which took me backpacking through Central America over Christmas and New Year, I have stuck to my 2013 New Years Resolution! Now there's something you don't hear many people say! For every special occasion, (Christmas, New Year and birthday), and for every Bank Holiday, I would make the most of the resulting time off work and travel to somewhere new across the globe!
The Easter Holidays were spent in Düsseldorf, Germany!
The early May Bank Holiday was spent in Barcelona, Spain!
The later May Bank Holiday (and also my 26th birthday) was spent in Lyon, France!
...And now it is the weekend of the August Bank Holiday! All over the radio you hear of people travelling to Reading and Leeds Festival after the withdrawal symptoms of returning from Radio One's Ibiza Weekend or V Fest! Colleagues are sharing stories of their UK trips taking them everywhere from London to Scotland to Wales! But still I stick to my promise! Still I make the most of the opportunity for a long weekend away! And again I am grateful that living in Europe allows me to say so openly, 'Well, where next?'.
So, as I have finished work until Tuesday, as my case is packed, and as I sit aboard this train, I am sat thinking of what the weekend has in store for me! This weekend in...
...Oslo, Norway!
My flight departs Stansted airport tomorrow morning at 8:25 but my journey has already begun! Sat on a train heading for London Euston, I have an evening of eating, drinking, talking and laughing with my companion for this Northern adventure! A fellow traveller who I met very locally! In Bangkok, Thailand! And who knows a work colleague who I see every day!
See, it really is such a very small world and I therefore have no excuse not to explore it!
