Is there truly a difference between going on holiday and going travelling?
Is the statement told by many a travel philosopher true?
...That a tourist can't remember where they've been but a traveller doesn't know where they're going!
Sat on a Ryanair flight with no leg room and no where to put my hand luggage, couldn't make me feel any further away from classing myself as a traveller at this very moment in time!
...As for a traveller not knowing where they're going, who are we to class this as true traveller style! Surely it's just laziness! But either way, this category we do fit into.
We currently have no where to stay in Oslo and no Norwegian currency. Is this because we are seeking adventure, or simply because we didn't get round to it?
...Truth is, I believe it's a mixture of both!
Classing yourself as a traveller seems to be more about your frame of mind than where you actually go! Travellers use phrases such as, "Can do!" and "Why not?" more than anyone else! They will make plans if they get round to it, and if they don't, they may end up having a slightly different plan. But the truth is they don't care! Even if they end up somewhere entirely different to where they were originally destined for, they know an adventure will still be around the corner!
This morning, luck really was on our side! We dived on one train after another and made it to them all on time, even making it to the airport with time to spare. But luck can't last forever and Ryanair isn't made for 'travellers'! "No printed boarding pass?" they hear you cry! "Well that's £70 then please!". Of course it is! ...because that makes complete sense! That A6 piece of paper you've just printed for me cost £70 to print. Obviously!
But we are on the plane now!
Where we will stay tonight...who knows!
Tent, hostel or 5 star hotel? The not knowing is part of the challenge.
Will we even make it to Oslo? Maybe Rygge will have something better to offer us!
But...as a true traveller would say, the point is I don't care! The world is my oyster!
