After reading a couple of guidebooks, research and advice from family we decided to go to yuyuan garden and bazaar. Arriving to the cultural temples with chinese people selling their stock such as ornaments and herbal tea. i saw the most beautiful tea set which was miniature teapot and teacups etched with traditional blue chinese design but i resisted the temptation to purchasing it for a couple of reasons, it was too fragile to post off back home also the thought of ben, amy, and cookie possibly breaking it eventually! The views was impeccable, a preserved nature compared to populated congested places. There was always chinese people asking for empty bottles just like beijing, i later discovered it was the government of china proposal, it was intended to be a solution to end the littering by offering money in exchange of collecting bottles which can be recycled. i feel for them because they have to resort to looking in the bins and picking up used bottles to survive. i queued up for an ATM to withdraw some money and saw a woman in front of me checking her balance which showed up as 510 Yuan, thats 51 pounds to her name which is distressing, but on other hand there was a time when i went in a bank few days before and there was a couple of chinese people cashing in their money as in wads of 1000 Yuan which just shows that China is not so different to other countries, in every countries there will be always people who are poor, some who are lucky enough to be able to afford some things. Afterwards we went to the bund during the night as recommended by my grandparents, the views was breathtaking, there was so many lights i had to double check whether it was on buildings or just decorations. It was just along the river which made it more magical with these boats cruising along passing these glittering lights setting an relaxing mood. We had walked along the bund from yuyuan garden and bazaar so when we tried to find a subway on the end of the bund in order to return back to the hostel but we discovered on the map the subway we walked from was the nearest subway, i look back now and i am glad we didnt bother to look in the map because if we did, we probably wouldnt have walked all way through to end of the bund as it was quite a long stretch, our feet was throbbing but we eventually walked back, along the way, i saw the boost store which sells fruit shakes just like in UK, i couldnt believe there was one in china! i was deflated to discover the price was a bit more expensive than the one in UK so i didnt bother buying one. Shanghai seemed to be better than beijing for a few reasons, the air was much cleaner and the atmosphere more cheerful.
