Experiencing the Lord in NYC
Last Thursday, on my way to a volunteer event site, I had to transfer subway at 50th street in Manhattan. When I walked down to the platform, I heard somebody was singing loudly. People were walking by each other in a rush, and very soon, I have located where the singing came from. There was a tall African American man walking along the platform slowly. His right hand was raised high and he was singing very loudly in the mists of all the busy looking people: "Glory to the Lord! Gory to Jesus! Glory to our God forever!!"
He stopped by the stairs and started talking to the crowd "we have all sinned and we need Jesus! John 3:16 says, for God so loved the world he gave his one and only son to the world..." He was just so boldly sharing with a busy crow of strangers! People were just waiting for the train and had nothing else to do but listening to the message.
This was my first time seeing someone sharing the gospel publicly in NYC. Later on my train arrived so I went into the train. The train wasn't too full, but still it was filled with people on their ways to work. Lots of them are plugged into their electronics and another half are spacing out. All of a sudden, there was a man stood up in the middle of the cart and started speaking to the crowd. He had a piece of news paper in his hand and he was talking about how last week there was an accident and 4 people died.
I thought he is one of those people who beg for money in the subway, but soon I have noticed he was onto something else. This man said "So what's the purpose of this life? Just like those people who died in the accident, we will all die sooner or later. We are all sinners, we all are. Have you ever lied? Stole? Gossip?..." He was very amazing, he talked about Jesus is the only way truth and life, also he asked people to repent and lead a prayer. This brother share Romans 6:23, For the wages of sin is death; but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord; also 1 John 1:9, If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. In a very short 20 minutes ride, he preached a wonderful Christian 101 sermon and people in the training was just listening. I'm sure God have used this brother to reach those who needed to hear the message.
We got 1 john 1:9 memorized in Sunday school, but I haven't really shared it with many non believers, definitely never thought about sharing the verse with strangers in the subway. I was very encouraged by those brothers' courage and boldness. What a blessing!!
Just wanted to share with you about this little story and please be praying that Lord will use me in any ways wherever he puts me!
