Sarah's Journey
Everything is well here in China. I've been travelling a little bit in the past few days so I couldn't get Internet. Last Sunday was my first time going to an underground house church service in China. And on Monday, my grandparents and my uncle got baptized by a nearby pastor. Today, Wednesday, I shared at the housing church with my testimony and talked about John 13 - humility and loving one other.
I can't use the Internet for long today, but can't wait to share with you what I have witnessed at the house church. Sunday morning 7:30am, a brother and a sister were waiting for me downstairs at my uncle's apartment where I was staying. I was quite surprised, I've told them I could find the church my self but still they came to pick me up. This is in LongChang, a little town surround by different villages. This brother and sister told me on our way to church that some older brothers and sisters came even earlier to sing worship songs and wait upon the lord in the house church. Lucky me can stay at my uncles, but some of the brothers and sisters had to walk miles to get here on Sunday, some of them are quiet old. We got off the bus and had to walk through a market, where people get their groceries here in town. I have attached the pictures. The house church actually is right by the market, at a sister's apartment's living room. God bless her family that she bare the risk and generously and faithfully serving the Lord. I walked in and saw the meeting place was probably three times of the size of my dorm at Cornell College, there were around 30 people there already, praising God and praying and waiting upon the Lord. Worship started at 8am, lead by Missionary brother Tian, again, there is no guitar, no piano, no drums, but voice, and some of the older brothers and sisters there doesn't even read. But all the people there were using best of their voice to praise our Almighty God!! People kept coming in, the little living room was packed by people, and we soon run out of little plastic stool. People arrived late had to stand all the way back, and later, we even run out of space back near the door. Some some brothers and sisters gave their seats to the elders and stood in the kitchen (connected to the living room) next door. Here is some background of this "house church". Most of the members were attending the "three self church" before, but God's people were persecuted and God's word was place second after politics and man. God's servants were persecuted and kicked out. There was a faithful couple, who both graduated from seminar, who were faithfully preaching God's word at the "three self church", refused to submit to man but God only. They were beaten up, their preaching tools like microphones were destroyed, the couple was kicked out the church and their apartment when their baby was 20 days old. There were many more example I won't mention here but brothers and sisters decide to take the risk leave the "three self church", join the "house church". Missionary Sister Wu was sharing the topic "not to hate your enemy but to pray for them with love". She said that brothers and sisters here gave up comfortable environment at the"three self church" and came here to suffer the risk but faithfully seeking God. through all the persecution, we've realize more clearly about our faith. She also challenged everyone to think about do we really need comfortable environment from the "fancy government church", or do we need the Lord? Don't we need to give all our burdens to God, and trust him to take care of us? I was deeply touched again. In front of all these faithful brothers and sisters, I was teared up. No freshly made coffee, no full time pastor, no space, no chair, no worship band, no fancy PowerPoint, no supportive family members, no money, and persecution....so many things I've taken for granted in the past. What they have is faith, and longing for God's word....shouldn't I check my heart everyday wherever I go and remember these faithful brothers and sister.- comments
