Today was more of a transit day to be honest. After another wet and windy night on KI we went in search of fuel before taking in the last things we needed to see before leaving the island.
So, we went and climbed up Prospect hill. Amazing views over parts of KI and the weather really brightened up. (Conveniently just as we are leaving the island..ho hum.) I discovered that it was founded by an English guy and they dubbed him Australia's first backpacker! The ferry wasn't till late afternoon so we hung about in Penneshaw for a bit. There is a nice penguin walk there but you would be lucky to see any lol.
The ferry ride over was good but we had a lot of ground to cover if we were going to make it to Coonawara tomorrow. Bea had a nice first today, we stopped just outside Wellington to get some fuel and ended up crossing the river on a small motorised ferry. It ended up being very late by the time we reached Penola (the next town over from Coonawara) and found a rest area to stay in.
Tomorrow sees us wine tasting in the Coonawara region, famous for red soil and red wines.
The picture is the view from the top of Prospect Hill.
