We had intended to get on the road early this morning but despite being up at 6am we still didn't start to travel till nearly 8am. Today we were off to Flinders Chase National park. On arrival at the park we had a coffee once the visitors centre opened. The guy was very helpful and told us all the things to see and what was still open in winter.
Our first stop was Remarkable rocks. A beautiful rock formation on the coast which was formed by volcanoes many years ago. One of them is in the shape of a Eagles head but think you have to use your imagination to make anything out of the others. Bea and I took a few pictures at the rocks but it was way too windy to hang about there for too long. There were signs up everywhere telling you where you couldn't go due to the dangers of getting swept into the sea. Apparently a few years ago a German tourist didn't listen and got swept in, two people went into save him and they both died. He survived, although critical at the time, but how bad is that?!
We then drove down to Admirals Arch which was about another 20 minutes from Remarkable rocks. Admirals Arch is a giant arch shaped cave which has formed underground. It also attracts a lot of New Zealand fur Seals to the area too. Why pay for a walk on the lookout at Seal Bay when you can see them here instead! So cute! Just watching the small ones mess about in the grass and swim around in the sea whilst the adults just lie there sleeping in the sun lol. (It's the life lol)
The guy in the visitors centre suggested we go on the Platypus walk which seemed like a nice walk but a complete waste of time. Half the signs pointed the wrong way due to construction works and I know they say you need patience to see them...I don't have any apparently lol.
The only thing left to see in Flinders Chase now was to take a walk down to Snake lagoon. This was a lovely little walk which takes you down to a white beach but it was a shame the weather wasn't so good or we would have hung around there a little bit longer. On our way out I bought a little something at the visitors centre and we managed to see our first wild koala! So cute, all balled up right at the top of the tree in the car park.
It actually inspired us to do the koala walk outside of the National Park. Someone told me it was free but it wasn't and it didn't really feel like a proper walk since it was a koala sanctuary. We did see a lot of them though, sleeping and awake so guess it was worth it. We left the koala mid afternoon and went down to Vivonne bay for the nights cold and wet camping...but...I got a hot shower so ner ner...lol.
The picture is of me at remarkable rocks.
