Sarah's Travels
We've had an amazing time in the Bled area, in northwest Slovenia! When we first arrived it was peeing it down and we weren't very hopeful about being able to do much outdoors stuff because of the weather but fortunately it cleared up for us and on Sunday we hired bikes and went to the Vintgar Gorge which is really picturesque and has a beautiful emerald green river running through and culminating in an impressive waterfall. From there we just cycled round the villages in this area, ended up doing over 20km that afternoon! We returned to our apartment somewhat saddle-sore!
The next day (yesterday) we had booked onto something called the 'Emerald River Adventure' which was a 12hr trip taking us round various sights in the Julian Alps, taking us rafting, hiking, jumping (!) and eating and drinking in between! Rafting was fantastic, although tamer than expected but the river was so cold and it was a bit rainy so we were all quite pleased not to have fallen in! Later in the day our guide took us to a bridge over the Soca (Emerald) River where some us of ended up jumping in (it was 12metres high!)! I still can't believe I actually did it as I was absolutely petrified and had made it worse for myself by standing on the bridge looking into the river for ages trying to decide whether to jump or not! Was a complete shock to my body as well as it was soooooo cold in the water and I could hardly catch my breath when I came up to the surface! Glad I did it though as would have regretted it if not. We met some lovely people yesterday too, so it was a great day but we were completely knackered by the time we got back to the apartment at 8pm.
There are photos from yesterday on website - www.explore-more.com then click on 'photo albums' then click on '5th June Emerald River'.
Today we have left Bled and come back to Ljubljana to catch an overnight bus to Split in Croatia tonight.
