We said good bye to the rest of the group this morning. Vic and Daniel came down to see us off. Then it was on the coach out of Paris.
I snoozed most of the trip to Calais so I didn't really see much if the county side. We reached Calais around twelve thirty and went through customs there. I got a really chatty customs officer who was really nice but I had just woken up from a snooze and was feeling pretty sluggish, he probably thought I was being rude. Then we had to navigate the port. It was too windy for us to walk across so we drove the coach on and got off there.
The crossing was alright. I'd have liked something to settle my stomach as we got further across but it wasn't too bad. We were met on the other side by a Cosmos representative who drove us to London.
I like England. I like the county side, the like the views, I like driving on the left hand side, the like the road signs, I like being able to read the road signs. Even the weather cleared up a bit to give us a bit of sun. I don't think I'll hold my breath for it lasting though.
We arrived in London at four and I was so pleaded to be here. The city is beautiful with the old stone buildings next to the glass sky scrapers. By five my enthusiasm wained. It took ages to get anywhere. When we finally reached the hotel, me and a group of Australians all headed to the underground to catch a train to my hotel. The same train would take them to Kings Cross Station so it really worked out. I got off at my station and from then on I was on my own.
I made it to my hotel alright, the hardest part being lugging my suitcase up the stairs of the station. Thankfully a absolutely lovely girl helped me get it up. That was so nice of her.
My room is as small as expected but it's clean and comfortable so it'll do me for the next four nights. I was at loose ends fir the rest if the night so I checked the directions and headed out to the theatre. I knew exactly what I wanted to see and although I didn't get one of the really cheap tickets, I did get a good seat and it was so worth it. Wicked is fantastic. I loved it. Beautifully acted, beautifully sang, amazing to look at. Wow. Better than the Cabaret. I have the directions for Lister Street so I may look for some more tickets, I'll see what I can find. One thing that made me laugh was a rather dramatic costume malfunction. One guys pants fell down in the middle of the stage, and these were big pants on big dancers. Two things I should have thought of, London is an hour earlier than Paris, I feel like it's later than it is and to top it off I didn't have any dinner. Still the show far surpassed all expectations.
I picked up something to eat as I left the theatre and as it was still somewhat early I just caught the underground back to the hotel. A pretty successful first day all things considered. How proud am I of me.
