Sarah J's Fully Sick Travel Page
Hey everybody!
Well after Famlmouth I made my way to Manchester to see my cousin Rachel and her boyfriend Alister. I arrived there on the Saturday night and stayed 5 nights. It was great to see them again and see some familiar faces. They showed me around Manchester on the Sunday, it's the 2nd biggest city in England after London of course.
On the Monday I took a day trip into Chester which is less than hour by train and not far from the Welsh border. This was a Roman city, they occupied it up until 1500 years ago! It is also a walled city, but all of the wall isn't so obvious only parts of it. I had a wander around, did some shopping...and some reading (I was in the middle of `Angels and Deamons' and couldn't put it down).
On the Tuesday I went on another day trip to York which is just over an hour on the train. York is really beautiful, probably the nicest place i've seen in the UK. I jumpped on a hop-on-hop-off tour bus and went all around the town, learning different things about the place as I went. York is also a walled city, and is much better than Chester's wall...it also has a massive gothic minster (church), which is probably as good as Westminster.
I jumped off the bus at the Roman gardens and had a wander around there and took some pics, then went to the minster for a better look.
York was also a Viking city, they arrived here in 864A.D, they have a Jorvik viking centre which I went to...you hop in this cart thing that takes you around a replicated city from that time. All the things in the centre are based on archaelogical evidence...they have even found a toilet with toilet remains in it!
On the Wednesday I made my way into Manchester and went to a museum in the morning and met Rachel for lunch. Then I hit the internet and shops before meeting her again for dinner and a movie. On Thursday it was time to say good-bye, we were both a bit teary but we'll see each other soon enough...I had a lot of fun in Manchester.
On Thursday I made my way to Horsham, where Deanne and Paul Vowels (from Newcastle ward) met me. They came over to see Paul's family and get sealed in the London Temple. On Friday (15th), they picked me up from Paul's brother and sister-in-laws place where I was staying and we headed over to the Temple...it's very beautiful, it is set on 32 acres of grounds in a quite area. We went to the distribution centre then had lunch in the car because suprise suprise it was raining. We then went to an LDS bookstore which was only 10mins away, I could've gone nuts in there but I knew that whatever I bought i'd have to lugg around with me! We then went to Bannisters, a bakery that makes the best scones around...they were delicious. Then it was back to the Temple where I helped Deanne get ready, she looked really beautiful, so they were sealed for all eternity while I watched Mary Poppins in another building.
On Saturday I helped set up for their party which was at 4pm for all their friends and family to celebrate and also to meet Deanne as it was her first time over here.
On Sunday we went to church, Deanne and Paul both talked in Sacrament meeting which was really good. Then the 3 of us went back to Paul's brother's place for a baked dinner.
Anyway...i'm off to Paris tomorrow!
Talk to you all later.
Love Sarah.
