Hi, We are still in Kanchanaburi but are about to head off to Chiang Mai which is in the North of Thailand. We are getting an overnight bus there which should be great fun! We had a good day yesterday as we went on a day trip to the Erawan Waterfalls and Hell fire pass. The waterfalls were in the Erawan national park which was gorgeous and the waterfalls were amazing, very tropical looking. There were 7 tiers to the waterfalls and each tier had a pool where you could swim. As it was once again ridiculoulsy hot and the sun was shinning the pools definitely looked very inviting but we decided to walk up to the 7th tier and swim there then make our way down because we knew if we swam in the first one we would probably not be bothered to move. The walk up took about an hour and was absolutely exhausting - not to mention perilous in our flipflops! I don't think i have ever been so hot and sweaty in my life, I managed to fall flat on my bum in one of the pools in all my clothes but i didn't mind because it was lovely and refreshing! We had some lovely swims but unfortunatley the pools were filled with massive fish who liked to nibble at you which wasn't great but I just did lots of leg flapping and they generally stayed away! After the waterfalls we went to Hellfire pass. This is part of the railway that the POWs built during the 2nd World war for the Japanese. For the Hellfire pass they had to cut through mountain and thousands of people died through exhaustion, disease and from lack of food and water. It was really moving and we had headsets on which told us all about it. Unfortunately we had to climb about a million steps to get to the pass so we were once again exhausted and hot. Also we didn't really have enough time to do it as our guide marched us around before we got to see everything. After this we had a quick train ride along the railway and then we went to the Bridge over the River kwai for a few photos. It was a great day but utterly exhausting so we had a nice early night last night xxx
