Sarah and Nicola Matthews' Travels
Hi,
Still dying of heat in Singapore but having a lovely time.
Yesterday we went to Sentosa which is an island just off Singapore. We got the cable car there which was really good as we got amazing views over Singapore and you could see just how busy and built up the port is. Sentosa is a gorgeous looking island which is covered with trees so it was nice to see some plant life after the concrete jungle of Singapore.
Our first stop was underwater world which was an aquarium. It looked quite cool, however we unfortunately were on Sentosa on Singapore family day and every company in Singapore seemed to be running a family day. Therefore, you couldn't get anywhere near the fish as there were thousands of excitable people everywhere - and my patience which is not best at the best of times is even worse in my current sweating to death state!
After the delight of the aquarium we headed off to the beach which was a lot more relaxed! We had a nice walk along the beaches which were all made up of imported sand but were really nice, unfortunately the water was a bit scummy looking so we decided to give swimming a miss. Sentosa has the southern most point in continental Asia so we had to have a few snaps!
Next we went to the dolphin lagoon and watched a dolphin show which was great fun. They were pink dolphins so were really strange looking cos they were very pink. We had a pat of one afterwards and our pic taken with it which was sweet.
After this Caroline took leave of her senses and decided to have a picture holding an Albino python (a yellow one)-surprisingly i wasn't tempted! It was very funny because they made her wear a nice snake charming hat and waist coat so she was looking pretty cool!
After our trip to Sentosa we met up with our friends we met in Australia who are staying at our hostel. We headed off to China town and had some hugely expensive drinks by the river while we watched the Portugal v Iran match and tried to spot Dad, Nik, Dave and Loz in the crowd. We didn't spot them none to surprisingly!
Today we hit the shops with a vengeance! Singapore has a ridiculous amount of shopping malls. Most of them are stupidly expensive but we had fun looking! It was lovely to spend the day in nice aircon malls and we were stupidly excited to spot such gems from home as Topshop! Despite the ridiculous amount of shops it was slightly disappointing as i didn't buy anything - but i'm saving my money my Thailand bargains!
We are off to Raffles tonight for our Singapore Slings - though I think we will only have one as they are not cheap!
xx
