hello from the galapagos!!
wow, i know i haven´t been in touch but i´ve done loads of exploring recently! the galapagos really i an amazing place!
last weekend i went on a tour of the islands with 10 of the other volunteers at the station - it was amazing! we saw (lots) of giant tortoises, they really are quite big!! we got to climb inside an old shell as well - it was soo heavy!! we climbed up a volcano, its the second largest volcano crater in the world and the largest of an active (!) volcano! it was pretty cool and such a different landscape to anything i´ve ever experienced before! we also saw loads of iguanas - although they´re not as big as i imagined!! we went to the most beautiful beach and everyone got sunburnt, i was so annoyed as i´m always preaching at people about being careful!! it was especially stupid as i simply forgot to put the cream on the back of my knees, and sun burn there is really annoying!!i am working on getting the pictures up but don´t hold your breath... it may be christmas and a very hazy memory before they arrive!
the weekend before contained one of the most hilarious moments ever though... a group of about 10 of us were walking back from the beach when in front of us was a kids carnival being set up. some bloke (with a comedically high pitched voice) spoke some very rapid spanish and asked us if we´d like to be in the carnival.... it was the most surreal thing ever! we were sat on a float (yes literally just sat at the back) which contained children dressed as crabs and one as charles darwin! all the adults watching were clearly thinking we had just gate crashed to ruin the children´s day! it was most hilarious when we saw some of the other volunteers, as we were near the back they were happily watching the carnival until they saw us and were suddenly like - what are you doing there?! one girl was bent double with laughter! it was hilarious! we were on this float for an hour and paraded through town (still only wearing what we were coming back from the beach in...) and ended up at some party at the school! anyway, to some extent i guess you had to be there but maybe you can imagine the pure ridiculous-ness!
hope everyone is well,
love & hugs!! xxxx
