I arrived in San Cristobal de Las Casas early on Sunday 23rd March and left early on Tuesday 25th March. The bus journey from Oaxaca to San Cristobal was 11 hours and we all got thrown around a lot on roads that twisted and turned. I had picked a seat at the front of the bus but ended up moving to the back where I got chatting to a couple of guys that had just started their trip. I've found since Mexico City that I'm starting to find people that are travelling for longer periods of time, on similar trips to me, before that it was mainly people on short holidays. I shared a taxi with the guys to a hostel that I'd picked out of my lonely planet, and I got a bed in the girls dorm. The guys decided to go to a different place that had been recommended to them, but after I'd had breakfast I spotted that they'd ended up coming back to the hostel. I had to wait around that morning until check out time around 12 for my bed, but thankfully this place had a pool table and my bus buddies felt like a game. The time went fast then. Despite the signs that said hot water was only available between 5-11 in the morning and evening I somehow managed to get a warm shower which I was so grateful for. Didn't do much this afternoon and that night I was invited to join a few people that had cooked dinner at the hostel. After that we played cards, and I was taught how to play texas holdem poker. Then a few of us went for drinks that night at a bar called Revolution where a band were playing very dodgy renditions of Beatles songs.
On Monday I saw rain for the first time since I arrived in Mexico. The weather was really odd, thick, dark clouds and a mist rain. Miserable. I tried to join a trip that 3 of the others were going on but it was full so I stayed put at the hostel. Had a walk around the town and another bagel (I was addicted after yesterdays) and then met up with Kaisa when she got back from the tour. We had planned to visit a local village, but with errands to run and time constraints we ended up not going and relaxed at a coffee shop. Had a quiet evening in tonight.
