Valencia, you didn't have me at hello, but it sure as hell didn't take me long to fall in love with you. Despite my rocky start, I was determined to give Valencia a proper go. Everyone that I've met who has been there have raved about it, and now I can see why.
I spent my first day getting my bearings, which still wasnt enough time when you have inherited your fathers poor sense of direction (actually lets call it non existant). The streets in Valencia are akin to that of the ones in Venice, so soon I gave up on the map and just wandered all day. At Jane´s advice, bought some fresh mussels from the amazing markets as well as some delicious fruit. We really do get ripped off in Australia when it comes to grocery/food shopping. All up the mussels and fruit cost me €6.50!!
That night after steaming up the yummy mussels, I joined the bar crawl run by the hostels in Valencia. A great night was had, I think. I didnt make it to the last bar thanks to all the free drinks we got! But I met some great people with whom I spent the rest of my time in Valencia with.
The next day we did the tapas tour, and although it wasnt the best tapas I've had, it was still great value and fun! That night I went to the beach with the kiwis and american girl that I'd met on the pub crawl. Swimming in the Medeterrainian Sea at 9pm and it was practically like taking a bath! Amazing experience.
The next day we all went to the museum of Arts and Sciences, which consists of 4 bizarre structures that are so inconsistent with the rest of the architecture of the city, but what a sight it was. One building, shaped like an eyeball contains an IMAX cinema where we watched a Richard Attenborough documentary about dinosaurs. Don't ask me the particulars, my English headset wasn't working. Cool graphics though!!
The next building is a long rectangular shape which has an open roof, and it has amazing gardens in there with every plant you can imagine including orange trees!
Further along is a building shaped like a whale, which is the main builind of an amazing aqaurium (definitely the highlight). Then the final building is shaped like a gladiator helmet and houses a science museum. Not sure what the connection is there... And all of the buildings are surrounded by massive pools of crystal clear water!! A great day was had, followed by a great siesta, followed by a GREAT late night three course meal. More steamed mussels, delicious seafood paella (and some Valencian paella with rabit and chicken) and chocolate crepe for dessert. Need to join gym asap. So worth it though.
It was with a heavy heart (and heavier stomach) that I left Valencia, but I have a feeling that Granada is going to be just as magical! Xxx

Rosie I think this makes me a Raver. Must start wearing more flouro. Have you been to the Ultra Modern, Modern part of Valencia that is so modern you suspect you may be on a Doctor Who set? Its pretty modern. Also a lessen in cross-cultural communication - what you should have said to the naked 60 year old is "ththththethththethtthe" followed by "are you married to Bubbles?"
