Hello all!
Well, these last couple weeks have flown by! I got back from Paris last night, and decided to update everyone before I forget anything. (Not that I ever could.) I mean, between the frog legs and the Eiffel Tower, it's been an interesting couple weeks to say the least. (Just to clarify on the whole frog leg deal, I wouldn't use the verb "ate"...I would say more "hopped them across my plate". They were truly a sight...and I can say that I won't be craving frog legs at any point in my life.)
Paris, I swear will never dissapoint. Even in the pouring rain, (which was only one night) It is still one of the most amazing places ever. I can't say the same for Vancouver.
In one week, I would say we did a lot. Everything from the well known ( The very top of the Eiffle tower. YAY) and even a little of the unknown. The only time we stopped was to grab some Starbucks. I've been seriously deprived being in a small -ish french town where they have never even heard of coffee in a to go cup.
We started on monday morning with Monmartre and the Sacré Coeur. I had a much better experience in Montmartre and would definatly love to go back, we walked all around and saw some adorable buildings, some slightly insane people and The Moulin Rouge. Tuesday we did a whole load of walking (the only way to see Paris) and went to a gorgeous Church, Saint-Chappelle, with more stained-glass windows then you could ever imagine. We went to Notre Dame which was as mind-blowing the second time as the first time.
The next couple days were filled with The Eiffle Tower, The tomb of every king of France, some super shopping at Lafayette (The French Holt Renfrew, in a much nicer building) a not-exactly-on-broadway musical (The Lion King!!!! SOOOOO Good!) and even a visit to the top of the L'arc de Triomphe. I didn't even know you could do that, but It's completly necessary. The view is ridiculous.
Today I did absolutly nothing. Five days in Paris is actually the equivalent of a million marathons. It's even worse when your in heels. I'm still on vacation and missing home terribly, because halloween here is reserved for toddlers. So I missed out on all the fun this year. I'll make up for it next year though...No worries.
I think I've said all the important stuff, but in terms of everyday stuff, in France, I've learnt that
-French people have no concept of subs. so when your teachers sick/doesn't want to teach, class is cancelled
-Everyone is really keen to teach me french swear words and slang
-To (most) French people Canada and the province of Québec are the same thing. As in, people assume that I eat poutine everyday and love Céline Dion.
well, I'm off to bake a souflé now.
till next time!!!!
