So there a couple of things London does wrong... And right
The wrong:
Trying to buy a ticket machine in a train station. They have the oyster card, a digitally loaded travel card, and perhaps in an attempt the make everyone use them as it speeds up the process of using public transport, they have very few ticket machines. These said ticket machines dont give change. What.
After having just come from Ireland which was abundant with traveller friendly bars and restaurants (read: wifi) we were very dissapointed to very rarely encounter any free wifi. Including in the hostel. One pound for half an hour was simply ridiculous.
Australia too of course has done many things wrong, but at least we abolished the one and two cent coin. What is the one and two pence coin rubbish.
Not everything London does is wrong, its also just confusing.
So they drive on the left, fair enough, but they cant be consistent enough to walk on the left. There are actually signs instructing you to stay on the right hand side of the escalator. The order is much appreciated, its absent at home, but we do conform to the standard 'keep left' at all times. London you confuse me.
Of course, not everything about London is wrong, nor do I mean any negativity of my observation, it in no way represents the people or culture of England. There are so very smart things in london.
The right:
Transit quards on trains are dressed in regular clothes with travel backpacks. They ever so subtly get on the train and wait near the doors, as soon as they shut they announce their presence. All these presents people from quickly jumping off, there are no machines on board to validate the tickets and one can not easily move between the carriages. There is no running away in London.
Also conviently and very nicely, all the train seats are equipt with a friendly arm rest to seperate you from your neighbour. Sucks to be fat though.
Thanks London, youve entertained me.
