As we are about to leave for the airport we thought we would update you all about our time in Singapore. There are many amazing buildings here that are so architecturally amazing I wonder how anyone thought of the designs and how to build the weird shapes without being knocked over in the storms.Over the last few days we didn't understand why there were so many of these wonderful buildings as the city was so quiet with few people wandering around. We found the answer to are question today-everyone stays in the thousands of malls that make up Singapore.I think it is actually possible to get from one side of the city to the other without going outside and seeing daylight!!Each mall is like the size of Liverpool one and there are many back to back which line the streets such as Orchid road yet they all have the same shops in them, I think we counted about 5 marks and spencers on the same road yesterday-Crazy!!
We started our first day in Singapore in a daze with only having 2 hours sleep. We decided to start with the Singapore's signature, the Singapore sling at Raffles Hotel.Raffle founded Singapore back in the eighteen hundreds and got a cocktail designed for him by a Chinese man in his honour in Raffles Hotel, so we thought we would go and try one. They were expensive but well worth it!! We felt like we had one back in time sitting at the bar with a cocktail and some monkey nuts. The strangest thing about this swanky hotel (where Stu had to wear proper shoes) was you could just throw the shells of the nuts onto the floor-we felt like we were littering!!
In a daze from lack of sleep and the cocktail we ventured to the Singapore Flyer aka the London eye but taller! This was all good and well until we started ascending higher and higher, there was the loudest thunder storm we have e ever heard.I was petrified at the sight of fork lightening whilst Stu was amazed by the whole situation-I just wanted to escape!!We finally found safety once getting off the ride of terror to find that the flyer had been closed for the rest of the afternoon due to bad weather-it was just our luck to be one of the last few up it!Even though it was pouring down (raindrops aren't the same here-they huge blobs) we walked round the Grande Prix track and wandered into the pit lane to take some photos for mum.
Little India was an experience-not the experience we were expecting unfortunately. If you want gold jewellery that's the place to go as every other shop was a gold dealer and not a yummy curry house as we were told!!We heard you could get a real taste of India here, however we didn't as our tea was inedible L maybe we just chose the wrong place? Who knows? The food markets were amazing though I felt like I was on a cookery show routing around for some curry leaves ha-ha!
After recommendations we visited Singapore's night safari which was AMAZING!! We got to venture round the park alone on foot and safely inside a truck (I made Stu sit next to the open door so I didn't get eaten ha-ha) to look at the nocturnal animals. It made me feel like I was in I'm a Celebrity Get Me out of Here.It was a lovely evening as we were safely guarded by the rainforest from the storm above.I would definitely recommend doing this it was brilliant!!
Every afternoon we have been greeted with storms were got soaked to the skin so we set off early this morning to the harbour to look at the symbol of Singapore, the Merlion before we got drenched yet again! All in all Singapore is a lovely place, clean (I got told off for eating on the subway-that's how clean and tidy it is), friendly and what I like the most quiet!
Off to catch our plane, update you soon once we are in Oz x x
