Monday to Wednesday in Perth!
In case you hadn't worked it out yet...the photos of the koala are for a reason! I'm not so lonely on my single travel adventure that i need a cuddly toy for company! My lovely friends from work gave him to me before I left and I decided to photograph him in various locations!! So, Kenny Koala is having an awesome time!
Monday was a chilled one, after a good sleep and a lazy morning I consulted my map and decided to go into Perth city for a bit of shopping and to buy postcards.
After a walk and a quiet lunch in the square; and of course a few purchases later it was time to hop back on the train to meet Mel for a tour and a beach sunset. The sun sets early and quickly here and they don't have daylight saving hours. There are plenty of places to go and sit and watch it too.
Mel took me to Hillarys Harbour, a lovely marina with bars and shops. We ate a huge meal and had a glass of bubbles! I ordered Barramundi; an Australian fish.
Then we went for a drive along the West Coast Highway....lots of huge millionaire houses, wow..if only you could afford one of these!
Next stop was Scarborough beach. Another stunning beach and nightlife along the esplanade. Watched the sunset over the sea..a bit chilly in the evenings but watching the sunset over the Indian Ocean is worth it. Then an early night with a full belly.
Tuesday I hopped on the ferry for a cruise and tour of the Swan River to Fremantle; or 'Freo' as it is known. Saw a dolphin!! Fremantle is an interesting little place. Reminded me of a old American western, it really is something from a bygone era. Had a look at the well known prison, wow kind of eerie! Walked back along 'cappucino strip', yes it's really called that! and couldnt find the train station anywhere!
Met Mel and we bought food for tea for a cheap night in ( watching the budget) and prepared our picnic for tomorrow as we were meeting friends in Kings Park to watch the sunset over the city.
Cottesloe beach and Kings Park.
I'm getting the hang of the trains here now. The transperth system is similar to the London underground but very simple. They run pretty much in straight lines...you can't get lost!
Found Cottesloe beach after a short walk from the station down a leafy and attractive road with amazing houses!
Big waves and white sand greet me and I find my spot...near the lifeguards hut!
After a couple hours with my book it's time to wander back to the station for our picnic in Kings Park.
Awesome....the word just sums it up. Absolutely spectacular views over the city of Perth and the Swan River which is spread beneath you. You can see for miles and we ate our picnic as the sun sets and the lights come on in the skyscrapers and harbour below. I even saw someone playing the didgeridoo!!
Definitely one to recommend to anyone visiting.
Some great photos for the album today.
Early start tomorrow...catching a ferry to Rottnest Island!
