29th October. Arrival in Perth and weekend in Margaret River.
I have arrived in Australia!!!i finally made it to the land down under after years of telling myself i'm going to go 'one day'...i'm here for my 'finding myself and soul searching' trip.
Good flights, not too jet lagged and best of all the sun was shining! My friend collected me and whisked me off to her home in Perth, but not without a quick stop at the beach so I could see for myself a real Aussie beach.
Just as I expected....stunning! Turquoise sea and white sand...and it was empty?!!
Home for the next week is a huge 4 bedroom house on a new estate north of Perth thanks to my friend and her sister. Bags dumped..beer in hand...aaaaandd relax!!
A nice chilled evening with pizza and a good catch up and I was ready for bed full of excitement for the following day of exploring ahead. We were also off to Margaret River later the next day for a chilled break.
Friday morning I was up and ready to hit Perth. Train tickets, map and directions in hand I ventured out. Brand new trains that travel in between the motorways and quiet stations made the short journey a pleasure.
I took in the scenery and watched the Aussie people doing their everyday chores still not quite believing I was here!
Perth city was gorgeous, fell in love with it immediately. Had a mooch about and an explore...and of course 'browsed' the shops! After some lunch and a new Australian mobile sim card I met Mel at the station and we were off to 'Margs'.
Margs.
A long drive, traffic jams, (yes they have traffic jams in Australia!) and I fell asleep we arrived in Margaret River. 3 hours south of Perth sits this sleepy town where people head for weekend breaks, the wineries and surfing. All 3 of us feeling sleepy we chatted and ate snacks then went to bed....so rock n roll!!
Up and about early with a map and car full of food we were off to visit vineyards, chocolate factories and breweries. Yum! But not before a huge pancake breakfast!
We tried wines, flavoured beers, flavoured vodkas, olive oils, chocolate and cheese!! Everything is so spread out here that you either have to drive or take an organized tour. Lucky for us Rachelle, one of my friends is pregnant so we had a designated driver!! And some awesome scenery to be seen. I can really see the appeal of this country. The only disappointing thing so far...I hadn't seen a kangaroo!
I managed a quick nap on the beach...and a quick nap back in the cabin!! Damn jet lag! Enjoyed a huge meal in the local pub listening to a band then off to bed we went..tired again!!
Well we are on holiday after all!
Day 2 Margs
Ever tried a chilli beer? How about a chocolate beer? Bush Shack brewery beer tasting today. After a full and uninterrupted sleep I felt human again!! leaving our cabin we were heading north and stopped at a couple of beaches.
A beautiful cove in Cape Leeuwin where the waves were crashing up over the rocks and there was a little walkway. We saw a seal sunbathing on the rocks. After that a stop at Smiths beach. Another lovely beach with no one on it! A quick paddle and walk in the sand, then onto the brewery for a taste of flavoured beer! Awesome! Chilli, chocolate, caramel, passionfruit, ginger and raspberry. Chatting to the owner about my need to see kangaroos she told us where we could see them locally so off we went. And yep..there they were! Managed to get a short video! Australia feels real now i've seen the roos!
Next stop was an ice cream shop - opted for ferrero rocher my fave! Also saw a camel and some emus randomly!
A couple more stops at some amazing beaches where we also saw a snake (a poisonous one) a lizard and just caught a glimpse of a whale in the distance!
Awesome day of wildlife! Quick nap in the car (really can't keep my eyes open by about 4pm!) and it's home to Perth for a barbie. Great chilled weekend with old friends in Margs.
I've only been here 3 days and i'm falling in love with this country already!!
