Well then now then, its been a bit of a mentallist week with loadsa action rammed in! Gotta mention i had a surf lesson when we left Rainbow Beach and the photographer must av been having the day of his life cuz he managed to catch me in an almost upright position, surrrfs up dudes!
Had a mini road trip in the campervan from Airlie beach up to Cape Tribulation which, apart from the small hassle of finding somewhere to park so as the rangers wouldn't find us, was a treat. Loads of freedom to just pull in and eat lunch at beatiful places (beaches, waterfalls, rainforest) and we got to explore places that we wouldn't have had access to without a motor! Checked out Milaa Milaa falls (Baby gyal i say tonight is your lucky nite...Peter Andre Mysterious Girl) and had a bit of a swim and experienced our first bath in natural hot springs at the Innot Hot springs. The water was Stupidly hot so we had to channel the stream water in to keep it cooler, all good stuff and free as u like : )) We did a day trip to the whitsunday Islands which are beautiful to look at but unfortunately we only had a disposable camera so the evidence might be a bit ropey but hopefully the pics will turn out fine! We took advantage of the fact it was an all inclusive boat by firing the vino down us and by filling the beach bag with take outs which always taste nicer.... Backpackers on a budget, who cud blame us! After the trip we headed up to Townsville for a night where we got rudely woken by a ranger at 12.30am threatening to fine us unless we moved to a proper campsite! Luckily we found somewhere else and got some sleep in!
The highlight of this action packed week has deffo gotta be diving the Barrier Reef! Absolutely mind blowing stuff and luckily we'd hired a dive camera to capture some mega pics. Hand feeding sea turtles, shoals of barracuda, and more fish, coral and colours than i've ever seen in my life! Definately a must do in OZ and somethin we'd both love to do again! Underwater Paradise!
Next we went croc hunting in the Daintree River at Port Douglas. We saw loadsa smaller crocs with the biggest being around 3 meters (apparantly the larger 5m males had moved up river to get away from the women) and saw a few tree snakes hanging in the mangroves. Well impressed that we saw these things in the wild and wud have loved to feed them a chicken had it been allowed!
We then headed into the Daintree Rainforest where we hit jackpot again! Walking along a boardwalk we were lucky enough to see an endangered mother and child Cassowary bird which are huuuuge! The mother stood about 5ft and we were literally meters away from them. It all got a bit tasty when a wild bore got near and the Cassowary started charging around like a lunatic and the bore was screaming literally like a piggy! Admittedly we did s*** it at this point as the birds can be pretty dangerous when angry but we did manage to get some photos of this beast of a bird!
We're now sat in Brisbane airport and the ozzie adventure is almost over! Very sad and can't believe how fast this time has gone. Loved travelling around and cannot fault living the working life in Sydney for 5 months. Unfortunately every adventure must come to an end so the Australia chapter is now over and in 10 hours we'll be starting the Asia one which will hopefully include cullinary treats, cheap ale, beautiful scenery, cool people.... and of course..... A Full Moon Party on July 4th, SHABBBBBBBBBBBAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!
