WEST MACDONNELL RANGE.
We head west from our camp site in the Alice along Namatjira Drive to take in the expanse of the West MacDonnell range. At numerous points along the 400km round trip we stop off to enjoy views of the fantastic hills and gorges aas well as the occasional creek (most of them are dry), which make up this beautiful range. It is clear to see why it infuenced the settlement artists of the Hermannsberg movement and the aboriginal water-colour artist Albert Namatjira, whose work we have seen in Darwin and will see again in Alice. We take in the sites and head out on a final 'bush walk' at Ormiston gorge to finish off our 4 day whirlwind tour of the Red Centre, by this time we are pretty exhausted and looking forward to sleeping in a proper bed at our base in Alice rather than on the floor/in the back of an estate car.
