THE OLGAS
Later that same day we set off to experience the Olgas which are 30 km to the west of Uluru. Unlike the monolithic Ayers Rock, the collection of rocks which make up the Olgas are more rounded and 'hill-like' in the their form and unexpectedly they are just about as captivating the Rock itself, but not quite. We decide to do part of the 'Valley of the Winds' walk which takes us through the facinating deep gorges of the rocks and can only be described as being like walking on the surface of Mars. We dont complete the full 7.5 km walk because even at 10am it's 40 degrees, we like the sun but this is tad a ridiculous. Before we set off we were warned that protective head gear / fly masks were needed to prevent you from going insane from the millions of flies that land all over your head and shoulders (because it's so dry they can sense the water from your mouth and eyes, that sounds great eh?). Strangely, all the flies land on Mark and as such Sarah seizes the perfect oppotunity to use all her 'theres no flies on you' and 'like flies round sh*t' jokes etc...very funny!. Sarah obviously gets a great picture of the flies round you know what (see photos). The remainder of the day was spent doing the arduous 500km drive to kings canyon and astonishingly Sarah drove most of the way - we calculate that this was the longest ever drive her life approximetely 250km or 150 miles in real money, not bad eh! We stay at a great campsite great campsite with a spectacular view of the Canyon itself and this perfect set up prompts us to get stuck into the beers and get the BBQ going - a great end to a great day. We've already forgotten about the speeding fine, well nearly anyway...
