Koh Chang
The journey from Siem reap in Cambodia to Koh Chang (a small island just off Thailand) coundn't have been bumpier! The bus which left Siem Reap was packed with tourists who were all hot (no air con), sweaty and aggrevated by having no leg room and having to hold on to their suitcases and bags as their was no hold on the bus!! The bus then proceeded to the Cambodia-Thai border along a what can only be described as a very slippy bumpy mud track. These few hours were possibly some of the longest of my life, and it was certainly the longest time i have had to have my knees up by my chin whilst trying to cool down. When we arrived at the border point it wasn't xactly clear what we had to do and where we had to go but we eventually found our way, and got our minibus which was much more comfortable, to take us to Koh Chang. As you looked back as we started driving in Thailand you can practically see the differences between the countries drawn on the border line; as you look towards Cambodia you see a muddy bumpy road lined with beggars and lacking any buildings, and as you look towards thailand there is a clean straight tarmac road lined with convenience stores and adverts. These two countries may be neighbours but they are worlds apart still, coming back to Thialand felt like coming back to civilisation.
Our guest house at Koh Chang was lovely; very clean with a huge class front. The beach is about 15 mins walk away and we soon manage to drag ourselves to walk along the palm fringed beach to a place where they sell beer! This is a lovely place with a gorgeous beach, good restaurants and bars and a good feel about it. Jo is still struggling to recover from her pooly tummy so we decide that i should go and enjoy the day without her...so I hire a little scooter and take myself off to the Klong Plu waterfall. Now, those ofyou who know me (Sarah) from being a child will know how accident prone and clumsy I am so it will be no surprise to you to hear that I typically had an accident when on my own! Was it on the scooter? I hear you say; no it involved water. As I was climbing down in to the water (which was just over knee height, I slipped and fell kind of forwards in to the water bouncing my hip off the rock on the way. I was ok apart from a rather unattractive black bruise on my hip, but Jo's new camera (which had been hanging around my neck) was not. It took the camera 5 days to dry out and although it is working it has never really been itself since. But the waterfall was lovely and a kind young Russian man took some photos for me and emailed them to afterwards - bless.
We didn't really want to leave this dessert island paradise but we had ground to cover and headed onwards.
