Ayutthaya
Hey boys and girls Cookie here! So it's my turn tell you about are fun times (apologies for the spelling mistakes!).
Well we arrived in Ayutthaya by a mini van bus thingy (which we were charged double price for as our bags took up 2 seats on the bus!), we then got a tuk tuk to the hostel (which were charged double for, because we are tourists, it'sa theme running throughout this little story!). The hostel is lovely; there is a really helpful and friendly girl who is the manager there - and it is only 4pounds per person per night - bargain!! We even have an en-suite room with a fan and air-con.
We spent the first day here at the Ayutthaya National Park walking around lots of ruined temples in the heat (obviously I burnt to a crisp with factor 50+ on!!) Here we saw the famous Budha's head enshrined in tree roots (see pics). We also saw a gold covered bronze sitting Budha which is pretty big! On this evening we went to a bar/restaurant for dinner and watched most of the Nadal / Federrer Wimbledon final!
The second day we went for a long tail boat ride around the moat which surrounds the island of Ayutthaya (caused by 3 rivers meeting and a little man made help). This was very relaxing, and we also saw several other Wat's from the river. We also managed to see the end of the tennis match as a market stall owner was watching it and didn't mind us joining him (and what a great match it was)!! In the evening we had a bit of a close brush with some dogs; two dogs tried to randomly attack my ankle's for no reason. Luckily I was too quick for them and then their 'owner' came out and beat them! It was only later we learned that another girl from our hostel had also been bitten badly by wild dogs and had to go to the hospital to be treated with 5 rabies injections and antibiotics. Apparently it is quite common to be bitten here (!!).
The last couple of days we have just chilled out a bit; chatting to other people in our hostel and wandering around markets etc. This morning we went to see the elephants - check out the photos because they are really cute. We also got our first bites today - and now it would appear that the floodgates have opened; we must be tastier nowadays!
Tomorrow we move even further north to Phitsanulok...we'll keep you posted!
lots of love xxxxxxx
