Greetings from Cambodia!!
Sorry for the late entry the technology in Cambodia is not the best! We have just tried to upload photos but it is not working so we will do this as soon as we can :-). Our stay in Cambodia began in Sihanoukville. We were staying by Serendipity beach. The beach itself was not great so our first day was spent at Otres beach and our opinion was that this wasnt quite as nice as Vietnam. In the evening we went out with some friends we had met in Vietnam which all started normal until we had some tequila shots and played beer pong...we lost every time at beer pong as we were playing the Cambodians who changed the rules throughout. Despite this we had a great evening, so great that some how we ended up in the sea and then being robbed by little Cambodian children. Luckily my stuff (Vicki) was not taken however Sarahs bag was taken along with her flip flops. The guys we were with spent some time chasing the kids around the beach and managed to get back flip flops and Sarahs empty bag so all was not lost (other than $30, some chewing gum, our hotel key(which cost $5 dollars) and a comb). all in all it was an eventful but fun evening and we learnt not to leave bags on the beach when intoxicated!!!
Day 2 and we were off to Koh Rung Island which is literally paradise!! Apart from our accomadation which had no running water and the fans were broken so we spent most of the night going from bed to hammock trying to sleep!! We spent the day chilling by the beach and in the evening we had quite possibly the best meal of our whole trip, a Khmer BBQ which was Piri Piri chich skewers with coleslaw, potato salad, chips and garlic bread :-) it was a-m-a-zing. We finished off with chocolate brownies and then all fell asleep as we were stuffed.
Day 3 we left for Siem Reap which was an overnight bus journey and took about 12 hours. Our first day in Siem Reap began by wandering round and seeing the sights. We went to a crocodile farm which was quite scary and saw the market, by midday we were roasting (April is the hottest month which we didnt realise) so we headed back to our room and spent the rest of the day watching the footy in our air conditioned room which had cable TV :-).
We should also mention the Cambodian way of money which is slightly wierd everything is priced in dollars but they also use reel so you pay in dollars and often get a mixture of both reel and dollars back!! Very Confusing!
Our 2nd day in Siem Reap we headed to Angkor Wat and the other temples. it was a very early start 5am as its good to see sunrise. However affter stting outside Angkor Wat until 6:45 we realised that the sun was up but it was cloudy so we didnt see much haha. We spent around 7 hours exploring the many temples including Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, Bayon (the temple with faces), Elephant terrace, Lepur terrance and Ta Phorn which was our favourite temple as the trees had grown into the temple. An interesting fact here .... this temple was where they filmed Tomb Raider!! :-) The funniest part of the day was at our last temple where we stopped off in the small market place. Vicki was interested in some trousers and was haggling for a price all was going well when Sarah arrived and she suggested I try them on to check. We quickly realised they were a bit big for me so said thanks very much to the lady and started to walk away. As we were walking the shouting began the lady was clearly not amused and started shouting 'you cheap tourists' at the top of her voice so everyone was looking at us, very embarrasing we made a quick escape!
This concludes the first half of Cambodia next we are off to the jungle in northern cambodia!! xxxx
