Playa Aycon
It is 13 reasonably flat kilometres from Trinidad to Playa Aycon and we had read that it was a nice day out if you hired bikes. We packed our day sacks and water and hired bikes to ride to the beach. The ride there was great fun, nice scenery and with a couple of sections of downhill. The outer parts of the city melted away into farmland and later we rode through two small villages. We were chased a couple of times by dogs, had to dodge some really huge holes, and over mountains of speed bumps but other than that it was clean sailings. We got some photos on the road as we moved Inbetween lakes, all on the way to beach.
We paid someone to watch our bikes and walked onto the beach to pay someone else for a beach chairs to sit on. It really wasn't expensive but its funny what you have to pay for. We walked along the beach, past chairs and volleyball courts everywhere and the water was crystal clear with sail boats and small motorboats.
Sarah pulls up anchor and relaxed with a book on the sun lounger. I walked along the beach and found a boat heading out snorkelling and it wasn't long till we left. With Sarah relaxing and reading i sailed out to the reef. We dove in off the boat to more fish than I have seen while diving. We dove many times while they sailed around and i held in under the rocks many times, saying hello to all the little critters.
We sailed back to shore and where i showed Sarah the photos from the under water fun. We chilled for a bit and I went for a run on the beach. I ran kilometres along the beach past everyone until I ran out of beach again. When I got back there was a person selling coconuts with rum and honey , the same as the ones horse riding.
I read a book with Sarah on the kindle and after a while we realised Sarah was badly burnt down one side.
After a long time we decided to head back. So we got our bikes and hit the road. It was much harder on the way home, this time we had a large cross wind or when we turned, it was a head wind. It didn't go well as Sarah was likely still sick. We had a few stops and it near on killed Sarah.
We finally made it back into town and headed to our awesome Trinidad family. We were greeted again with some cold juice and relaxed for an hour before returning the bikes.
We looked for a bus out in a few days time but everything was full up due to a festival. After we told the grandfather about it, unbeknown to us he tried to ring everywhere, trying to find us ticket, but to no avail. Thanks grandad.
