Hej Allesammen.
Julekys fra down under.
Hi everybody.
We are so sorry that it has been so long since we have written anything!! So many things have happened since we wrote the last time, but lucky for you I have been keeping a diary, so I will not leave anything out! I promise. :)
So, from Bob and Louise we took a night train up the coast to Brisbane, where we had booked 2 nights. The traintrip was very long and not very comfortable. Luckily the guy in front of us got off quite early, so we could turn the seat around (the very smart thing about the australian trains!!) and lay across the seats opposit eachother. This was still not very comfortable because the seats are not very long. But we slept most of the way and we got there in one piece. We arrived in Brisbane at 5.30 in the morning and found our hostel quite quickly. Of course we couldn't check in before 2pm, so we had absoulutely nothing to do for 8 hours! We left our luggage at the hostel and went out to find some breakfast. Of course nothing was open until 7am, so we ended up sitting and waiting for about half an hour. We had a good breakfast and headed of to find a cinema. It took a while, and this didn't open until 10.15, so we found a park and just dozed off for a few hours. It was nice. Even nicer than the train. Haha.. We were so tired and thought it would be a good idea to go see a movie. When we got to the cinema it was absolutly packed with people! We were so surprised! Apparently they were all going to se the new twilligt movie.. (?) We went to see the new Chrsitmas movie, called "four hollidays" with Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn. It was very very funny!! We went in to town after the movie and had lunch and just walked around the shops before we went back to the hostel. The rest of the day we just relaxed and made dinner.. The next day we spend a lot of time trying to find accomedation in Byron Bay, where we had descided to go on the saturday. (the day after) We know we left it a bit late, but it is very hard to find accomedation here in Australia because it is high season here and everything is already booked. It is not the first time we had trouble finding accomedation.. Anyway, it worked out alright and we headed of to see a tropical garden. Unfortunently big parts of it was closed off, but we had a nice walk and took some very good pictures. On the way back into town we stopped at a little church and had a look. It was a little old church in the midle of everything. You could just imagine that it had been there forever, and they have built around it. It was very sweet, and we spoke to a man for a bit before we had lunch in a very nice cafe. The rest of the day we went up the river on a boat-taxi-thing. Just to see the town from the river, and walked around for a bit. We had some very nice days in Brisbane, but was so humid in the air there, and there wasn't a lot of things to do, so 2 days was enough for us, and we headed of for Byron Bay the following morning.
We had the most wonderful days in Byron Bay. It is a small hippy dippy type of town, with lovely beaches and cute shops. We were so lucky with our hostel and the weather was so good. The first couple of days we layed on the beach, walked around the shops and we took a walk up to the lighthouse (see picture) which takes about 45 minutes. It was a wonderfull walk up small paths and throuh a forrest. It vas very hot, but when we got to the top, there were just great views of the beautiful beaches on both sides!! LOVELY! On the monday Louise and Maria, the 2 girls we met in Las Vegas, arrived!! We had been so exited to see them, and over the next few days we just had so much fun! We were on the beach every single day. I think it must have been about 35 degries every day! We had lunches together and met in the evening for dinner and partying :) We went to this bar/disco called "The Cheeky Monkey". It was great fun. They didn't really have a dance floor! No, they had big tables with different levels to dance on!! Dangerous some might say!! We also went and had dinner on the beach one day, which was really nice and had the best kebabs I have ever tasted. When we had to say goodbuy to the girls, we were nearly crying because we wouldn't see eachother until we get home to Denmark! And even then we live 3 hours apart. But we have already agreed on meeting up at home. We have really made some great friends there, and we really miss you guys, if you are reading this!! :)
So the trip went back to Buttlebrush Drive and Louise and Bob last thursday. It was a looong trip back, and Bob picked us up on the station and they had made dinner for us. :) lovely to be back with our australian mum and dad and beeing spoiled rotten! :) Saturday was Louises 50th birthdayparty!! We all went out to dinner with family and friends, and we just had so much fun! It was a great evening! Sunday we went to Sydney and met up with Line (saras friend from school) who also is travelling the worldand her boyfriend who was visiting. We also met her back in San Fransisco (we saw the election together. -remember? :)). Her boyfriend came over to be with her at christmas. We had lunch and went to the zoo! It was really nice to chatch up and we had a really nice day together. We just missed our train back by 2 minutes, and had to wait for an hour. But we went and had some thai food, so wasn't to bad. Yesterday and today we have just been relaxing. We have booked our tickets to go to melbourne on the 29th and bought a few christmas presants.
Christmas is going to be very different this year, and it is a bit hard not to be with family and friends at this moment. We really have been missing the "real" christmas spirit and all the danish (and english) traditions. But Bob and Louise have made it very special for us. The other day we put up a christmastree (we actually build it ourselves, it is made of plastic) and listened to carrols. The plan for the next few days are: Tomorrow (the 24th) we are just relaxing, rapping presants, and me and sara have been assigned to make the danish ricepudding!! haha.. we will see how that goes. We have been out to buy the mandelgave and everything. At 12 we are going to midnightmass at the local church. That will be nice. On the 25th we are going over to some friends, who have a lot of kids and family, so that will be fun. We are looking forward to playing a lot of games and having fun. Later we will go to Louises sister and her housband to have dessert. On the 26th we are going to a babeque-lunch with bobs work, which will be a lot of fun i think. And then maybe we will go bowling in the afternoon. We have booked 2 nights in Sydney on the 27th and the 28th, where the plan is to see the rest of Sydney and the things we haven't done yet, like chinatown, darling harbour and manly beach. The 28th we are going to go to see the blue mountains and then the 29th we have a plaine in the morning to go to melbourne, where we will be staying with Claire over the new year!
We hope that everyone will have a wonderfull Christmas in Denmark tomorrow, we will be thinking of you with longing hearts. Also to everybody in England on the 25th. We wish we could be with you all!! Thank you so much for all your christmas thoughts, letters, email and presants!!!! :)
Lots of love and merry christmas from Sara and Emily
