Last night we talked about it, and agreed that whoever woke up first will turn on the lights to wake the rest up. Turns out that I regained consciousness before everyone else and so I switched on the lights which was at the wall my bed was at anyway. And heck! No one bothers to wake up. June's alarm went off but she neutralised it in no time! LOL. Sensing I was alone, I went back to sleep for a while more. Not as if I wasn't tired. LOL. Slowly one by one started to peel themselves away from their bed and made their way to the toilet. It was late in the morning already by the time we were ready to move out. No worries though, we're on a relaxing holiday right? So there's no need to rush things. On a side note, Junlong's friend joined us last night and will be with us for the next couple of days!
The first day we arrived at the hostel, we noticed a announcement posted on the notice boards informing everyone the Tsukiji fish aunctions will be off limits to tourists during this period of time. But we still believed that it Tsukiji is still worth a visit. And so, we were on our way to Tsukiji. I left my bright yellow down jacket back at the hostel much to the dismay of Wai Kit. Tokyo wasn't that cold after all, a Polo tee plus a wool sweater and a pullover did the trick,
We reached Tsujiki around lunchtime and it was so very extremely crowded! Its just like Shubuya last night, only that its a little worse. We fought our way through the jam packed paths where numerous stalls selling hot and delicious local food are located. Further inside the main food bazaar area was a market place selling fresh seafood and vegetables. Choices of food was aplenty and we were really spoilt for choices. We decided to divide and conquer. But somehow June, Kenny, Wai Kit, Shea Nee and me ended up together queuing up for some famous tamago thingy. The queue was so long that it had to be split into 2 so as not to block the road.
After that we thought anymore queuing will be pretty time wasting and so we headed across the street into a mall in search for our lunch. We screened a few restaurants at the basement of the mall and decided to settle wiith a sashimi lunch. A sashimi place at Tsukiji should be good right? Indeed it was, the fish was fresh and the meal was splendid. We couldn;t finish everything except Wai Kit. LOL. He's a bottomless pit when it comes to food. We settled the bill and set off for the Tsukiji station to meet up with Junlong and his friend. There wasn't a lot of daylight left and we wasted no time as we set off for our next destination, Ginza.
Ginza is a place for high end fashion stuffs and no prize for guessing whats on our mind. LOL. Yup, its Burberry's Blue and Black label boutiques. When we arrived at the Ginza station, we were in this Sony building which had everything Sony produced! It was quite impressive and they were all the latest models and designs. I must comment that the sony girls there are the prettiest Tokyo girls Ive seen during the whole of my Tokyo trip. Too bad no photos to back up my statement. LOL. I wonder if the rest noticed or remembered.
After exploring the Sony building and the toilets as well, we made our way outside and saw great malls all over. Seriously every major brand that you can think of has a presence there. We walked and admired and soon we found we have been looking for! We went into the boutique to check out the lastest winter season models. We spent a couple of hours in there i estimated. Shea Nee, Wai Kit and me bought a wallet each but what was most memorable wasn't the wallets and bags nor was it the boutique, it was the mix up by the staff that served us that was very amusing. She had everything wrapped up very delicately and nicely but she did not take note of whose buy was in which bag. A fatal error for any service staffs by my standards. But of course we didn't blame her as she was very polite and sincere when serving us.
It was getting dark by the time we were done and we walked down the streets back to the station. We decided to go back to Akibahara for a couple of reasons. 1, Kenny will be meeting his pen pal there. 2, Junlong and his friends wanted to check out stuffs over there. So we took the metro and headed for Akibahara.
Now we had to make a decision, Kenny will be going to meet his pen pal for dinner and he's asking who wants to join him. In end after some discussion, June, Shea Nee and me followed Kenny while the other 3 went on their own. We waited outside Yodobashi for his friend whom did not take too long to turned up. She suggested Asakusa as the venue for dinner as there was apparently a nice soba restaurant. We must have missed it all these while. It turned out to be right next to the metro entrance which we pass by everyday. We never knew it was famous. And so we settled ourselves inside at a Japanese style table where you sit on tatami. it was pretty cramped and I'm sure Kenny will agree on this. LOL.
There was a gift exchange between Kenny and his friend, Rie. Shiroi Koibito vs Tokyo Banana. Like for like. June and I ordered cold soba while the rest hot soupy soba. We had a interesting time chatting with Rie. She is really one very kind hearted and considerate person. She speaks Japanese slowly so we have time to comprehend and she tries to keep us entertained and make s sure that we are alright. Heard from Kenny she went on a trip to the Phillipines to help poor kids. Thats just kind and sweet isn't it. She picked up the tab for the meal despite furious protests from us. We decided to show our appreciation by inviting her to our cramped hostel room. We started showing her our Kamishibai, well mine was just photos and photos..LOL. Rie is very gentle and soft spoken and seems really interested in everything we said. I'm sure Kenny will do well to stay in touch with her.
It was late and she has to go. Kenny and myself walked her to the metro station. Helped buy June a hot lemon on the way back. We stayed and packed our stuffs while waiting for the other 3 to come back. Meanwhile June help put our tamago outside the back door to keep it cold.
