SANJ/ SONY IN SOUTH AMERICA
HI!
im in a place called pottassi at the moment in southern bolivia. it used to be one of the richest places in the world because they mined gold and silver here, but most of its gone now, so its really poor like the rest of bolivia. We went down the mines today which was a bit scary. Got dressed up in the whole gear, ya know helmet and overalls and head torch etc. It was scary and cool. We bought presents for the miners like cigarettes, water, biscuits and errrrrrrrr Dynamite. Our guide attached the dynamite to a fuse, lit the dynamite and then we held it and took pictures. Then he legged it off down the hill buried it, came back and then a minute later, Ka-Boom!!! I screamed my head off. It felt like being next to speakers at a reggae float at carnival, when the bass goes right through ya body. Inside the mine We saw this statue of a god that the miners pray to for good luck which had a massive erection...... Anyway we were supposed to be going to the salt plains today but there is A referendum on sunday where everyone has to vote so everything is shuttin down. Some farmers are against the referendum and are preventing tourists from entering the salt plains. So we aint going POO!! But at least we are safe and our tour leader wants us to get the hell out of bolivia asap. Im the only one in the group who thinks being in the middle of political turmoil is exciting. When we were in la paz (the capital) there were loads of protests going on which again i thought was exciting. This country is ridiculously cheap. A three course slap up meal costs about one pound fifty and thats a really good restaurant. When we were in La paz we went mountain biking down the worlds most dangerous road. THere were memorials all along it for all the people who had died on it, which was reassuring that it was the worlds most dangerous rd. On the way back the traffic got bad on the road, its along a cliff edge for most of the way and can squeeze 2 cars on it on some of the road. As its so high it was cloudy up there and misty, not good around blind corners. Then it started to rain. Then there was a land slide ahead of us and we had to move the rocks ourselves. When the van we were in was going over the road we had cleared, we started to hear the road crumbling, but it wasnt the same land, this time it was the road we were actually on. We all jumped out and started running to a safe spot to meet the van ahead. It was so scary, i wont be doing that again. Anyway we are off to Argentina at the crack of down, i think they might be a bit pissed off as they just got kicked out of the world cup. We are gonna be in argentina for 8 days so i'll prob update u after that. Something tells me im gonna have alot of fun there ; )
