Hey guys! This blog is about my trip to Fraser Island the largest sand island in the world, I think! Priscilla, Becca and I arrived in Rainbow Beach around lunchtime. We stayed at Dingos which is the best place to stay if you wanna do the 4WD Self Drive on Fraser. We had our briefing at 2pm, they told us all the do's and don'ts and we got into our groups! We were the A-Team. So there was me, priscilla, becca. Sam and Mel two girls from London, Chris from Guernesy, Rachel, Baz, an Mouse and Davo from Texas! We were all happy with our group and we got onto the important part of the trip ordering our alcohol! We spent the afternoon chatting and buying snacks and getting excited for our trip! That night we all had a pretty early one as we had to get up at 7am the next day. So we had our free pancakes at 7am then went to meet Merv the legend who organises the Fraser trip. There were four groups of 10 and we were mostly gonna follow the same route. So all four cars were in the back carpark and we had to pack up our car ready for the 3 days. We had loads of food, alcohol, and cooking equipment on the roof plus a load of tents and all of our belongings which made us pretty top heavy. I was first to drive and we went down to the beach at Rainbow to get the car ferry over to Hook Point on Fraser Island. It must have been around 930 and the tide was pretty high at some points! There was one scary moment where we were driving and there was no beach to drive on so I literally had to drive through the sea. On the first day we drove the whole length of the island stopping for toilet breaks, ice buying and to look at a ship wreck. We ended up at Indian Head the northest point on the east side of the island. The views were amazing it was nice to chill out abit and to nit drive constantly. We'd driven about 100km at this point and by the time we left it was 2pm, Chris took over the driving to our campsite which was about an hour drive south. However when we got to the camp it had been closed! So we drove abit further south and found a little sandduned area to camp in. It was about 5pm now and we should have arrived at 430pm. Anyway afterall the cars arrived we got our tents up and started cooking! I can't really comment on much more of the night because I started drinking goon around 5 and was comatosed by 9! I even missed out on the dingo's getting into one of the girls tents and robbing her bag with all her stuff in it!!
Day 2 started with about an hour and a half drive to Lake Mackenzie. After toilet stops we arrived about 12 and spent our time messing around in the water and sunbathing. It was lovely simialr to whitehaven beach but no where near as picturesque! After another long and bumpy car journey back to the beach we found our next camping spot. We got everything doen before the sunset whic was good, and then along came the goon again and a huge game of I Have Never which was pretty funny. We danced some more and then went to bed, no dingo attacks that night but they did come along and take a load of food out of one of the esky's the other group had left out!! On our last day on Fraser we went to another lake called Wabby. It was surrounded on one side by a huge sanddune we spent a few hours there before heading back down the beach to hook point where we caught our ferry back to Rainbow. We cleaned the jeeps out and went back to dingo's for a well deserved shower, as you can imagen we were all pretty smelly after 3 days on a sand island! We were all pretty gutted that it was over, I think I prefer Fraser over the Whitsundays as you have more choice in what you do. But I had an amazing time on both. To end our 3 days we all went to a trivia night and did stupid things but our group won all the prizes which was good! On Tuesday me and the girls got the bus down to Noosa for a few days of R&R before heading off to Brisbane to Part-ay!!! X
