Sandy is now being watched by Interpol !
Not really but the first night on our walk from the hotel to the river we passed by a building covered in white plastic that was right next to the river and had an American flag in it . So being the curious person I am, I waked closer and it had a sign saying it was the US Embassy ( under construction ) . So like any good American tourist would do ,I pulled out my I phone and proceeded to take a pic - uh oh not a good idea I guess . Two military police guys then appeared from around the corner and one proceeded to walk up to me shouting no foto no foto....he then came up to me and demanded "delete delete !! ". He then watched me as I deleted the photo !! Wow - scenes from James Bond and other spy movies start to fill my brain - welcome to post 911 Europe is guess ...
Wednesday 4/2 - we visited "David " - housed in the Academia Gallery - WOW - looked like a water polo players body to me !! Great lighting for it as opposed to some of the other other venues which seemed so dark . Then on to the Uffizi Gallery - one of the largest art galleries in Europe . No pics allowed at either of these locations . One of my favorites from the early rennaisance is housed here - The birth of Venus - by Sandro Botticelli .... Bellissimo !!
Weather is not the greatest - partly sunny but mainly overcast - in the 60's - but at least not raining.
A bit weary from 2 major museums ... We head back to the hotel . We dine at the hotel restaurant tonight - delicious soup with garbanzo beans in delicious cream sauce then mike had sea bass and I had chicken piccata type dish .
Next day - Thursday - we decide to walk across the river to visit the Boboli Gardens - part of the Pitti Palace compound from the Medici Family. Quite a long walk and our feet already hurting a bit from 6 hours of waking the day before . But we forge on - I will post some of these photos . Just turning to spring so not a lot of color but very ornate formal gardens and it was nice to be out away from the crowds on the streets of Firenze . On the way back to our hotel we pick up some cheese , peppers , onions , olives and bread - pic nic on our balcony tonight :)
Friday Mikie says he needs a day of rest so we sleep late and do some laundry at the coin laundry place . Luckily Australian man there to help us navigate the machines .
All in all people very friendly and willing to help - u really do not need to know Italian but they appreciate it if u try .
We venture out for dinner to a little place near the hotel. Trattoria Il Contadino - very good pasta !! I think we were the only non Italians there so was a bit uncomfortable - but waiter helpful and food was yummy !
