So our feet were very sore today, so sore in fact that we decided that we should catch the double decker bus around Washington rather than walk.
Unfortunately the lady at the bus stop was not quite as helpful as we would have liked and we ended up waiting for the bus we wanted for almost an hour in the sun (we wanted to go on the blue bus to Arlington).
When the bus finally arrived, we were relieved and there was plenty of room for us to sit at the top and enjoy the views. It only took about 20 minutes to get to Arlington, where we decided to get off and go for a wander around.
We first went to look at where JFK and Jacqui Kennedy Onassis are buried along with two of their children who died at a young age. Nearby are also the sites of two of JFK's brothers.
We went for a little walk around and also witnessed a military burial, which was quite moving even from a distance (I know - I'm a sook).
We headed back to the bus stop and didn't have to wait long for a bus that took us past the pentagon and around the city back to the starting point. Pretty soon after that we got on a bus that took us out to Georgetown via some really hip, expensive and nice areas.
On the return journey we got out of the bus at the Lincoln Memorial. When you reach the memorial you can walk up and see the huge statue of Lincoln sitting in his seat and read some of the wise words he spoke on the walls. IF you look from the stairs back towards the national mall you have a fantastic view of the Reflection Pool and the Washigton monument.
Finally we got back on a bus and went towards union station, where we did have a peak under the skirts of the stone guards, then back onto a bus to finish off the tour and get off as close to our hotel as possible.
We decided to have tea t the Capitol Brewing Company and then back to the hotel.
