After a long ferry ride across a lake so big you can't see the other side we arrived at an island formed by two volcanoes a few kilometers apart that soar in the sky. We were swarmed by locals as we got off the boat with the "Where are you going? What do you want to do today?" questions we are used to from Asia. The island seemed very quiet so the locals were doing all they could for our business.
We found a place to stay and rented a sad looking old motorcycle for $20 to see the island. We found there wasn't much except some natural springs that were cold and for once we were too after some rain on the bike. The roads are really bad there as the heavy rain carries huge amounts of the volcanic rock and dumps it all on the road, one pile was over a meter high. It made for some fun riding and I discovered that even riding a s***ty bike with Nikki on the back too, it can still be great fun.
We had lunch at a little shack enjoying the litros and fish and chips with a local man practicing his English on us and taking a liking to Nikki (can't blame him for that). At the restaurant there was also a little TV, smaller than our computer, sitting in an old broken fridge. We couldn't help but laugh and take a photo of the locals sitting around watching it so intensely.
One day was enough there so we headed for the beach of Tamarindo and the border crossing into Costa Rica. We have been getting more and more lazy and caught cabs some of the way instead of the cheap local buses. Hey, they're still pretty cheap and cut a lot of time out of the trip.
