We spent tha last few days in Jakarta looking round the shopping malls, which are massive and very swanky. The transjakarta bus was a really good way to get around as it has it's own lane , so it misses the traffic, and the buses run every 5 mins or so. We tried to go out on both Thursday and Friday night but both nights were very unsuccessful. On Thursday we couldn't find Embassy, which is meant to be a good club, and after half an hour of walking in the wrong direction and three taxi rides later we decided to give up. On Friday night we were a bit more prepared and wrote down the address for the club, but when we arrived there it was closed, and it looked like the club hnext to it had burnt down. So we sat in T.G.I Friday's for a drink and then headed to the Crown Plaza hotel as it also has a club. The hotel was so so nice! It has a fountain, marble floors and a elevator, which made our hotel seem even more pitiful! We went to the club but there was some cheesy cover band that were quite bad, so we had one (very expensive) drink and then left to get some sleep before our half 7 flight.
Kuala Lumpur seems very nice. It's a lot cleaner than Indonesia and although we've had a few 'Taxi mister' calls people haven't really bothered us and we don't get stared at like we're lepers, which is always nice. Yesterday was a very lazy day, we slept for quite a while in the afternoon which I think was deserved after getting up at 4, and got some lunch. They have loads of food courts here which has made Sam very happy indeed! We also bought our weight in fruit as we have been living off of fried rice/fried noodles/fried chicken/fried eggs for quite a while now and we're starting to feel the effects of it!
We didn't book a hotel before we arrived, but caught the bus from the airport to Pondok Lodge which was recommended in our lonely planet book. When we pulled up outside said place we quickly decided we weren't going to stay there as it looked like it could fall down at any minute, and if the brown net curtains were anything to go by we figured that the rooms would probably be pretty grotty. We found a lovely little guest house called Anjung KL which is very clean and very nice. We have our own room with air con and share a bathroom with a few other rooms but everything is spotless and it feels very homely.
Today we are going to go up the Petronas Towers (which were in the film 'Entrapment') and maybe to the Batu Caves too. On the 21st we fly to Singapore for 3 nights and then on the 27th we fly from Singapore to Bangkok. We will probably spend a night or two there and then hope to head to Siam Reap in Cambodia, then to Phnom Penh. We've managed to find really cheap flights from Air Asia and Tiger Airways, which are a little bit more expensive than buses but will take a lot less time, which is of the essence now that I only have two weeks left! From Phnom Penh we'll fly back to Bangkok so I can fly home.
