Puno was very nice! We arrived at about half 5 in the morning and couldn´t check in because all of the rooms were full, but by half past 6 we were on our way to Lago Titikaka for a tour! We went to one of the floating islands (which is actually floating-it´s made from bits of reed tied together!)and had a ride in a reed boat! The island was very strange to walk on-it felt like we could fall through, it was really spongey. I have since been informed by Sam that the island was made so that some of the Peruvians could get away from the Incas as they were too violent. Afterwards we headed to a big island a bit further out (which was very steep!) and climbed up thee the main square, then a little bit further for some lunch. I cant remember the name of the island but it was very big, and apparently you can tell people´s marital status and importance by the kind of hat that they wear! It was a nice walk, even though we´re still getting used to the think air, and we managed to get some good photos which I don´t think we can upload here as the computers don´t seem to have USB sockets.
Our hostel in Puno was reallt reallt nice, we had a room inside a room that had it{s own living room and dining table. Those bits were shared with another room, but it was empty, so we took the opportunity to watch an illegally copied movie with a pizza!
The trip to La Paz wasn´t as smooth as we had hoped...We got up extra early yesterday to get the bus station for 6 (our bus was supoosed to leave at half past), to find out that the bus had infact left at 5 and our tickets were wrong. Nice one. So after walking round the bus station (all we could hear was ´Cusco, Cusco, Cusco´ from the different companies) we booked another bus that had ´only one stop´...so one bus, a taxi, a minibus, a boat and another mini bus later we arrived here.
We booked a trip on the world{s most dangerous road, where they give you a mountain bike and some more safety stuff and let you ride down to the bottom! We{re doing that tomorrow, and then on Sunday we start our salt lake tour by travelling to Uyuni, then across the salt flats and end up in San Pedro in Chile. I think we might have to put our flights to NZ back a few days as we{ll be very tight on time.
The computers here aren´t the best and I can{t open my e-mails, and Sam{s has just crashed on him, so we´ll have to upload the photos soon.
