G'day people.
So in 2011 so far i have seen some fantatic places already and met some brilliant people. After my last blog i headed down to Mallaka a small fishing port in malaysia (one of the only places that has a real history in Malaysia) I caught the public bus to it and on arrival to get the bus it was crazy! There are about 25 companies all going to the same place bidding for you to travel with them. A bit like a cattle market where u chose the bus that looks the best. On arrival in Mallaka it was very quite so i went for a walk around the old center that has portugese influences because it was overruled in the 1800's. The center itslef was really nice althought it was very small so after walking around i headed to the china town to grab some food. Its a really nice place but it got boring because there wasnt much to do there. So the next day i headed to my next country....Singapore!
Catching the bus again it only takes 4 hours to get there and you have to go through customs. On the imigration card it says if u are caught trafficking drugs it is punishable by death centence. This had me worried cause i didnt know if someone had planted anything in my bag so after a quick check i was confident no one had tampered with my bag. On arrival in Singapore it was raining. I didnt have a hostel booked i just knew where one was that was supposed to be okay. I headed towards the general direction but got lost and ended up walking around for about 35 mins in the rain with my huge rucksack before finding a starbucks to steal there internet and find out where i needed to go. Finaly arrived at my hostel which seemed fine. I headed out again to walk around the city, heading down to the marina. First impressions of singapore is that its a very clean and safe place as crime seems to be un heard of. This place is built for shoppers with lots of money. There i literally a mall on every street corner. There is also a street that is only lined with shopping centers that are huge. A shoppers parradise....So no good for me as couldnt buy anything. T
Day 2 in the big S i tried to go find where the F1 circuit was, it took me ages but i finaly found it. Wasnt to much to see really so was a little dissapointing but i got to see the paddocks with the drivers names still on the doors. i then headed to the main shopping street just to have a look at how many malls there actually was...unbelievable. Later that evening i headed out with a guy from the US to grab some food and a few drinks in the china town. It was very expensive for drink here to we only had a few and watched the the world go by.
Day 3- I headed to a small island just off singapore that is home to the universal resort. It was a really nice place altough geared towards kids so i had a wander around and headed back to the main island to see if i could purchase a cheap netbook as you can claim the tax back at the airport. I found one and spend the rest of the evening setting it up and chilling at the hostel because it decided to tip it down all afternoon/evening which was a shame for my last evening in the city before heading to Oz the next day.
Flight day- Travel was fine and they slightly upgraded me to a isle seat with more leg room which was a bonus. It was on the airbus that are absolutly huge and u get like a 12 inch tv screen each with games movies on demand and a msg'd system where u can msg other seats, which could cause some mischeif! On arrival at the airport i had nothing to look forward to that evening as i was staying in the airport. A night of only 2 hours sleep! not the greatest but was free. The flight the next day was the cairns up in queensland, which has all the flooding currently. So was very apprehensive about coming here. The strangest thing happend on the plane, someone was in my seat and they had double booked it, because the person in my seat had the exact same name as me so once again i had to move seats to another isle seat with more leg room ....happy days.
First impressions of Cairns is i love it! they have this laggoon by the sea where everyone chills out and has bbq's i think me and a few guys from my room are gunna have a bbq tomorrow. Drink is very expensive here where the cheapest if probably about $5 so about 4 quid. Last night we went on this pub crawl which was hugely dissapointing with the highlight going to the lagoon and drinking two bottle of wine cheaply.
Tue i have booked in for a dive in the famous barrier reif! and wednesday i have booked in for a waterfall and rainforest tour. I will update again prob next weekend.
Sorry for the poor grammer and spelling i didnt have time to sence check :-s
Take care and speak soon everyone.
Much love xx
