Well today was my first day out about about in Costa Rica. After a slight miscommunications with my host grandmother, I conveyed to her that I would be wandering around the downtown area of heredia with some new amigos. She was all for it. She is very encouraging when it comes to me learning spanish and the way of life here in Costa Rica.
Mi amiga nueva Tina thought we lived near eachother so we planned to go out and explore. Turns out we live on completely different sides of town and had to meet at the Universidad. Although I was very worried about walking through town on my own it wasn't a big deal at all. I didn't feel uncomfortable at all. The tico men do make cat calls but since I speak so little spanish, I don't understand them and its easy to ignore. Hopefully, I can start running before school some mornings.
When Tina and I finally found one another we decided to wander the areas near the university to see if we could find her a Tico phone (cell phones we can use here). Very unlike America most things are closed on Sundays. Which should have dawned on me when Abuelita bought milk yesterday and told the lady at the market see you Monday. So Tina and I didn't have much luck. We were able to get ourselves somewhat lost twice but we were able to find our way to the central park and back to the university.
There are so many hills here so walking is a pretty good work out. It is really quite beautiful here. The sky was bright blue and the sun was shining all morning. I think I may have even got a shade darker. It is rainy season here though so at some point I'm sure it will start pouring the sheets of rain that it did yesterday. The rain itself is very warm but it comes down very hard!
