Small farming village amidst of city of stone brick, hand-built buildings and little kids with dirt streaked faces kicking a soccer ball around in narrow streets. When we visit Lizzie's step-dad's family, we are immediately greeted with tea, then a shot of coffee. Soon after a meal, more tea, a huge basket of fruits, and a shot of coffee. We lounge around on cushioned seats that sit low to the ground, kind of like little rectangular beds that line up against the wall, much like the hookah bars in Chicago, but obviously this is the real deal. Anymore lounging and coffee shots though and I just might explode!
We went to Mt. Nebo and Ma'in yesterday. Think of those crazy car commericals zooming up, down, and around dry desert moutains, much like the Grand Canyon, and you will get a glimpse of my day. Guard rails aren't too popular, death seems not too far off. Passing cars, which is oh so common here on these steep (15% grade) mountains, is so scary, I thought my life was going to end here. It's funny cause slow cars drive on the shoulder on the highways and main roads.
Mt. Nebo is where Moses saw the Promised Land before he died on the mountain, it is really cool to go to these Catholic historical sites though, it gives me a better look into the life Jesus, Moses, and others led.
Still no live sight of the King. The U.S. Embassy has huge armed machine tanks with army men inside facing the street. It's crazy to think that as safe as I feel here, it isn't necessarily so true.
