It is now January 2010 and we are back home. Our photo shows the view from the bottom of our street except that everyting is covered in snow at the moment.
Our last entry was at La Coruna and after the weather calmed down we had a good Biscay crossing to Belle Isle (340miles). Its a lovely place and we stayed there for one week before heading up the French coast. After an exciting passage through the Raz de Siene we met up with Brian at Brest and subsequently spent most of a week in Camaret where we met Nigel and family who like us were waiting for good conditions to head North. Eventually we set off for Falmouth and had a good Channel crossing through a great deal of traffic and arrived in the early hours of the morning at the beginning of September. We then spent a week in Falmouth having a nice time and socialising with Julian and family.
We then set off for Land's End and Ireland but failed on the first attempt due to massive seas. We retired to Newlyn and set off again a couple of days later and had a fairly rough ride up to Arklow. We then picked our way in short hops up the Irish coast to Bangor. We then got a gale warning for the Irish sea and Clyde area so we set off with the intention of arriving in Ardrossan before the strong winds arrived. Wrong decision, and nightfall found us off Ardrossan in strong onshore winds but after a fairly hairy approach with the engine running in reverse to slow us down, we popped into Ardrossan where shortly afterwards they closed the storm gate! Well it wasn't such a wrong decision as the winds blew strongly for the next week and we would have been stuch in Bangor ( which is not such a bad place to be stuck).
Anyway the boat is now in Largs (and for sale ) and we are back in the house after some delay in persuading our tenents to leave. We have now endured the wettest November and the coldest December of the decade and think fondly of the warmth of the Mediterranean. We alaso think of the many friends we have made on our voyage so to old friends and new friends we wish you all a VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR.
