Once at Kuranda, which looks like a giant tourist trap or a place where all hippies moved, we went to the Butterfly Sanctuary. It is home to 1500 beautiful tropical butterflies that are reared on the premises.

This is the 180 degree bend in the track and begins the steep climb up to Kuranda.

Today we took a train ride up the Kuranda scenic railway. It's a 100 year old track that climbs up the mountain range through tunnels and past some beautiful waterfalls. The train was so hot.

We are on our way to the reef. Our bus driver has a ukulele and plays at the stops. The tour is with Quicksilver and drives up the coast to Port Douglas. This is the season for jellyfish and we have been warned repeatedly not to jump in the ocean at the shoreline. Also they are encouraging us to rent wet suits when we snorkel.
