Sallys Worldwide Adventure
Is was the first time I actually knew I was in Australia. The East coast was wicked, but you caould actually be anywhere hot, and most the people you met arent Australian!!
As I was flying in I looked out the plane window and all I could see what red! I got picked up from the airport by the bus of a camping tour I had arranged to do.
We drove from the airport straight to Ayers Rock which was only about 15 mins away. It was so weird to actually b seeing it for myself, after seeing it in so many pictures. We walked around the base of it, which is around 7 k's. It took us around 3 hours!! You can actually climb it, but its disrespectful to the aboriginals, and I defo dont wanna upset them as they can be pretty scary!! After we'd done the walk we headed to camp to watch sunset with champane, the rock is meant to change to lots of different colours of red but I didnt notice it.
I was so anxious to go to bed that night as I had been told we were sleeping in swags, but I didnt know what one was, so I was desperate to find out. Its basically a canvass sleeping bag but a bit wider, and you have a little matress in it and a pillow. You then put your sleeping bag in it and a load of blankets and get in and sleep under the stars! When I got in it was all walm and toasty as the fire was going but I woke up loads in night freezing, especially my face as that is out of the bag, but I was way too cold to move and put more wood on the fire.
We got up at 5.30 to watch sunrise and everyone was freezing cold, are guide said it was at least -1, and it doesnt properly walm up till 9 or 10!
After Sunrise we walked around Kata Tjuka ( The Olgas) which was a bit more interesting than the walk around the rock as there was a lot more climbing involved and a lot more to see. We then drove up to our next campsite at Kings Creek. This campsite was cool, there was only the 10 of us from my group up there, which was good cause the shower and toilet were in the middle of the bush with no doors, so you could see the odd camel or kangaroo when you was sitting on the bog!! To use the shower we had to light a fire under the this tank thing to heat up the water, was really cool! We had much better weather on the 2nd night, it was really cloudy so much warmer, so had a really good nights sleep, the best I had in ages!
On the last day of the tour we drove up to Kings Canyon and walked around and then drove on to a camel farm and I had a ride on a camel which was fun and then a long drive up to Alice Springs.
I spent 2 days in Alice Springs and can you believe that the 1st day I was there it rained which was the 1st time it had rained since Feb!! So spent most of my 1st day just hanging around in the hostel watching TV, I did go a visit the Royal Flying Doctors who serve as the only medical assisatnce to the outback so that was pretty cool! I also saw my 1st deadly Red back spider! Pretty scary, it was just wondering around the pool at the hostel!
On the 2nd day I walked in to the city and I was so suprised how big and how much like a normal city it was, I was a bit naive and kinda expectiong like a dusty road with a few saloons and stuff. I walked up to the Alice Spring along the river todd, which was completly dry, but when I got to the sring the water had just started to flow, which is really rare so I was really lucky to see it apparently!! I then climbed a hill called Anzac Hill to a look out point at the top, and could see how big the city was and how its is so in the middle of no where!
