Sallys Worldwide Adventure
Beijing wasnt one of my favourite places. I got frustrated not being able to communicate with people, which I know is mainly my thought because I dont know any chiense.
I think the people are quite rude though, they ask for Tips and exect you to give high tips. They just stare at you, like your a freak or something and it really made me feel uncomftable, its felt like I wasnt welcome in there country.
I had a night mare trying to get accomadation, mainly because I got there late ish at night and couldnt arrange anything. And then once I had arranged something getting to it was a pain.
If I went back it would be easyier, getting to the city from the airport is preety easy, they have regular buses. But getting to and from anywhere else in the area I found difficult.
Went to the Great Wall and Ming Tombs, Great Wall was amazing, and we were left to explore it on our own, which was cool. The ming tombs were okay, but not really what I expected, most of it was just a museum and only saw one tomb, which was basically a hill in the background.
Then I went on a tour of the city. I thought this tour was too long. It was a freezing cold day and raining, which didnt help cause most the time we were outside. Went to Summer Palace, Temple of Heaven, Tian Square and Forbiden City. They were all interseting places, but I think it would have been better with out a guide so I could move at my own pace.
I eventually ended up staying in a really great Hostel called Beijing City Central International Youth Hostel. It was right opposite the bus stop from the Airport, so easy to reach if your coming straight from the airport. The hostel was really clean and the staff were really friendly. They also had a tour desk which was really useful.
