We're in Russia!! I love it so much. The streets are wide and busy with people, and the building are so old they're falling apart, but the place is so elegant. Today we walked to the Aleksandra Nevskiy Laura monastery and cemetary, where great Russians like Dosteyevsky and Mussorgsky are buried. We arrived yesterday after a very harrowing taxi ride-there don't appear to be road rules or speed limits in Russia. The Cyrillic alphabet has us both a bit floored, but it's not too big a problem. Tonight is the beginning of our tour.
A very quick overview of the last few days, before my internet time expires: We went to Nurnberg where the world's biggest Christmas market was just opening. So much food! Potato scallops and sausages and fairy floss and deep friend bread. And then gluhwein and beer, of course. There were candies and tree decorations and wooden Christmas sculptures and people on stilts and jugglers and so many little stores it was hard to navigate around them. Sadly, we didn't really have enough time in either Nurnberg or Berlin, we had spent to much time with Vera in Vienna!
Lots of love to you all,
Sarah
