We spend the weekend with a roadtrip to Key West.
After a nice dinner with some of Karina's colleagues (gnocci all you can eat, yumme!) on friday we headed south early on saturday morning.
Since Sabrina wanted to pet an alligator - a detour into the Everglades was inevitable. We visited the Everglades Safaripark and started with an airboat ride into the endless green of the park. All the wild alligators hid from us but we saw some turtles and pretty flowers (and the damn boat was SO noisy! The provided earplugs were absolutely necessary.) and after the boattrip there was a short show with some information about crocodiles and alligators (which didn't hid now) after which it was possible to pet a gator baby. The walk through the park on the wooden bridges failed briefly since the killer-mosquitos of doom and evilness tried to eat us alive!
Afterwards we hit the road farther south until we reached Tavernier where our motel was located. We tried to find a nice beach on Islamorada (which is nearly impossible because all the acceptable beaches are private property and the only public ones are...ehw). Our loyal companion was the omnipresent SMELL. The last days were incredible hot without any wind and so the algae started to rot, covering the keys in an odeur of death and brackish water. Yay! :D
Dinner was some enormous chickenschnitzel coverd in cheese and bolognese sauce (meat with more meat) in a diner beside the road with the most American waitress you can imagine (anybody knows Debbie from Queer as Folk? Her. Just blonde. Awesome!).
The evening ended even more american with Bud Light at the backside of the motel - sitting in wooden chairs, staring into the water, listening to country music and talking about the good old times. :D
Sunday started with breakfast and an other diner/bakery and delicous pancakes covered in strawberries and whipped cream with coffee and more coffee. <3
Afterwards we were on our way to Key West were we literally just got out of the car, made some photos at Southern point before we drove back to Key Largo since we had a reservation for a snorkeling tour at 2 am.
We made it just in time (although there was enough time for a cheeseburger at Wendy's) and spend some hours in the open sea, watching colourful fish, corals, baracudas and even a ray and a shark! I was pretty impressed and it was one of my personal highlights.
We arrived back at Miami Beach in the evening and completed the weekend with pizza and beer.
Also my face isn't bright red anymore! YAY FOR THAT! I just molted twice, guess that's fine. :D
