Ok
So I woke up yesterday at 3 in the morning having only slept an hour after sorting out the blog photos and what have you. We drove to this small little airport in Charlottesville where I had to get my flight that left at 6.That then took me to Detroit, where I then got onto the flight to Minneapolis, which I then took another flight from there to Calgary, Canada.Once in Calgary I got onto the bus that took me an hour and half up the mountains to Canmore where I met the Rebus'.I am staying with Sonja, Matthew, David and Andrew. David and Andrew are twins of around 11 years old and Matthew is 13.I used to teach them all piano back home on Sunday afternoons so I jumped at the opportunity to visit them when Sonja asked if I wanted to make a pit stop in Canada on my travels this summer.
I managed to sleep on most of the flights so when I finally got there I wasn't that tired.
We got back to the log cabin condo which they own which is beautiful.I haven't seen so much wood in all my life.Everything is made from wood, that and brick. The area has a real rustic feel to it.I noticed on the drive up that everyone wore cowboy hats and the cowboy approach to life was very apparent.
They have a beautiful log cabin set right in amongst the great snow capped mountains. They showed me my room, I dumped my things and grabbed my swimsuit and we all moseyed off to the private pool area to take a dip and play water volley ball.
After an hour or so we made our way back fro dinner and finished up the day battling it out on Halo on the massive wide screen tv that takes up pretty much the whole wall.I was crap. Truly, truly crap but I'm getting better!I WILL WIN.Perhaps not in this life time but I will keep aiming for gold!
Today we woke up early and sped off towards Banff, a nearby town with kayaking on offer.
All five of us got our little boats and paddled in search for the lake that we would eventually find after 20 mins ofpaddling up the winding stream. The scenery is completely and utterly breathtaking. Im miffed that I will have to wait till LA in a few days to upload my photos as they are stunning. We paddled up this stream with the beautiful grey jiggered mountains completely surrounding us.The tall weedy grass along the banks fo the river allowing all kinds of wildlife to nestle in and casually watch the rivers excitement of the day pass by.
So far we saw mountain goats, Canadian geese, and an Ospreys on our travels. We then ventured into town to check out the local museum; Banff Park Museum. This museum specialised in displaying all the different types of stuffed animals that inhabited the local area. Some of the stuffed animals were over 100 years old! There were Grizzly bears, moose, elks, Bald Eagles, owls, skunks, cougars (local mountain lions) , Golden Eagles, beavers, wolves, woodpeckers and fully stuffed bison. My favourite of all were the pygmy owls.I will own one, one day, and it will be called Dimitiri. No special reason, I just like the name.
We then carried on walking down the high street of Banff, went into the local shops and finished the stroll off at Melissa's a family fun restaurant where we devoured ourselves with pancakes, syrup and BLT's.
After that we drove round the area and checked out the Banff hot springs, the Bow falls, and the Banff Springs hotel. Pictures to follow.
We are now sitting in the club house next to the condo, where the boys are arguing about some game they are playing with the pool table and no doubt we will continue our quest on halowhere I WILL defeat them. One day.
Over and out.
