What an experience!!!!
Prison Dance in CPDRC (Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center) is amazing. All the male inmates, and some of the female, are gathered in the big yard in the prison and have 4-5 songs which they perform to. We are not talking about 50-100 inmates, no there must be like 250-400 inmates doing the same choreographer, at the same time, to the beats of the music. The songs they perform to are well known, so the audience can sing a long, relate to and have a great time seeing this performance.
We, as female audience, were not allowed to be seated on the ground floor where the inmates are, eventhough SOME women were allowed anyways. Maybe its because we are white? :) BUT with that said we had a much better view of the dancing, than the people on the ground! We were seated in front of the female inmates cells, which was quite weird or intimidating, cause I have no idea what they were in prison for; it could be theft, lack of payment or even murder.
Some of the songs the inmates performed to were; Jump (for my love) - Pointer Sisters, Billie Jean - Michael Jackson, Baby - Justin Bieber, Insomnia - Usher, and OF COURSE the never ending GANGNAM STYLE - thinking of the internationals every time i hear it, and thats a lot here <3
When they had done their performance the crowd were allowed to join the "dancefloor" with the inmates, and get their pictures taken with them. That was so fun. I didn't think about what they were in prison for, but I Just enjoyed the moment and the kind people :)
After the "show" we all (Melissa, Sabina, Isabel, Naida, Pernille, Christian, Kian, Marko and I) walked down the mountain, as the prison it located there. so beautiful and DIFFERENT from what i have ever seen!
Look at the pictures and be amazed :)
