We woke up before 5am so that we could do the 3 hour boat trip back to camp. We started out in the boats and our guides told us to wear our rain jackets as we'd probably get wet from the water spray in the rapids. After 10 minutes in the boat the heavens opened and did not stop for the whole 3 hour journey!! We were soaked through but 2 of the guides had the right idea and hid under the waterproof section that all our bags were in! Got back to camp and had a lovely breakfast and then we headed back to Canaima airport to take a plane back to Puerto Ordaz. As you can see from the picture it was a TINY 6 seater plane and there was so much luggage (our massive backpacks...!) that the plane tipped over! Pretty scary plane ride, I was surprised we got in the air! And then the pilot decided to fly us so close to the water and waterfall that everyone in the plane was screaming and swearing! After a tense flight we landed in Ciudad Bolivar were Walter (our helpful Venezuelan friend) picked us up and drove us to Puerto Ordaz to our hostel which was about a 50 minute drive - very kind of him. Hostel was basic but we found a TGI Friday and had some food and then managed to get some rest ready to figure out what our next move was going to be.
