Okay...this is my last day in Prague. Yesterday we started by going to the "dancing house" or "fred and ginger" which was designed by Frank Gehry who designed the Guggenheim museum in Bilbo Spain. It is supposed to look like Ginger Rodgers and Fred Astair dancing. We also saw the astronomical clock seen above in the picture...its like the biggest coo coo clock in the world. It is actually pretty amazing. I have no idea how it works but its like nothing I have ever seen. Then we walked up the river and bought a picnic lunch and headed up to Letna Park. Once again there were amazing views of the city. The day was very cool and the wind kept blowing the leaves everywhere. This is the park that in the early 1950's they erected a 30 meter statue of Stalin that you could see from the city. One year later Stalin's crimes were revealed and it took about 10 years for them to finally tear it down. It was the largest statue of him. Anyway in its place they erected a HUGE metronome to state that all individuals in power have a limited amount of time. Very cool. Then we headed down to the Museum of Communism. I learned so much. It was interesting how recent the history of oppression is in Prague. In 1989 there was what the call the velvet revolution that would topple the communist regime. Students went into Wenceslas Square on a peaceful demonstration and were barricaded in. The students were beaten as they tried to escape. The next day Students throughout Czechoslovakia decided to strike and were joined by their parents with a march into the square. These demonstrations lead to the election of the president in December 1 month later. On a lighter note but something still learned is that the Czechs invented beer in nearby Pilzen (the famous Pilsner Urquell) Today we went for a walk on the opposite side of the river up into Petrinske Park up to a Giant tower. My legs are shot. We walk for hours and hours every day and although it is cool outside you can work up quite a sweat. We also found these very cool hidden gardens and these small finds are my favorite part of the adventure. Tonight we depart Prague..although I have really enjoyed my time here, I am ready to move on. We will be going by night train to Budapest Hungary and arrive early in the morning. I can't wait for the next part of the adventure. Na zdravi (to your health) Na shledanou (goodbye),
Renel
