Dobryden~ Hello from the Czech Republic. I might pass out while I write this because I am so incredibly tired I can hardly see straight. It is currently 6:00 pm in Prague but I have had about 7 hours of sleep in the last two days and I am beyond exhausted. The plane flight over was cramped but I met a lovely pediatrician named Collin who was on his way to a conference in London. He is a professor and has written text books. Then I flew directly to Prague and met a Englishman name Phill who gave me my fist pound for good luck. Both flights went well. I am so pleased with my ability to negotiate the currency exchange and transportation system without a hitch. I was nervous to be on my own this first day waiting to meet up with Katie and Sean but it has been quite lovely minus the lack of sleep. I checked in to the Czech Inn and then went and wondered the streets for the last 4 hours. The metro, tram and bus are fairly easy to navigate. I went directly to a park and wondered through the trees and sat on a bench overlooking the city. What an amazing view! This city is so old and the architecture is beautiful. I learned that Prague is one of the few cities that did not get bombed during WWII. The streets are all cobbled and the Vltava river is wide and beautiful. This sounds funny but it all just looks so European. I feel very safe in this city and everyone I have spoken to has been very helpful and friendly. I walked across the Charles Bridge which is a pedestrian bridge with a lot of vendors and artists on it. The picture above is of this bridge. Unfortunately this internet site does not have a portal to plug my camera into and so I can not show you my photos from today. There are beautiful parks and fountains around the city. The trees are changing color and the air is cool. The city is slightly hilly and so you get warm rather quickly. Traveling alone has been a really fun experience. I would usually not choose being by myself but I felt very empowered by today. I am currently drinking a pint of beer I bought for 30 crowns. 25 crowns = 1 dollar so I have a huge beer for like a buck. I need to eat but am waiting for those two. I also desperately need to sleep. Today has been a really great way to start my European adventure. I'll write again in the next few days.
